Cherokee Memorial Park & Funeral Home
Niche
A niche is the primary memorialization option for the placement of cremated remains.
Many people believe, mistakenly, that the process of cremation is an end in itself. Cremation is one step in the process of preparing the remains of a loved one for permanent placement and memorialization, similar in many ways to traditional burial preparation. Niches are usually above ground structures made of concrete and covered in granite, marble or stone. A grouping of niches like this is known as a columbarium.
The niche choices at Cherokee Memorial Park are many and varied. They are located in many of the beautifully landscaped cemetery gardens, and in the different mausoleums within the cemetery. Many of the niches surround the foundations of the inspiring statuary within the gardens or near the beautiful “mountain” stream. Some are located in the various mausoleum locations—the Temple of Memories or the spectacular Chapel of Flowers in the Sierra View Mausoleum structure.
Other niches are located in urn gardens. An urn garden is an open structure for the placement of cremated remains, covered with a succession of annual flowers.
