Memorial Day 2009 weekend is only 6 months away. Preparations are all ready under way for Memorial Day on May 25, 2009. Our main service is held at 10:30 a.m. at the Park.
The Avenue of Flags are a collection of flags that represent veterans from our country’s military service. Most of these
have been draped on a veteran’s casket and whom are buried or interred at Cherokee Memorial Park.
Families of veterans who have donated the flags have also paid a fee to have them flown each Memorial Day.
Each year, just before Memorial Day, Cherokee Memorial Park staff places over 5000 small individual flags to mark the gravesite
of each individual veteran. The honorable duty of placing these flags is started on Wednesday prior to Memorial Day and usually
concludes within 3 days. If there is not a flag on the grave of your loved one who has served in the military please contact
the office & one will be placed there.
