John Boger

November 10, 1929 - February 01, 2021

John Jacob Boger, 91, left us peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2021 at his home surrounded by his wife and children.

John was a loving husband to his wife, Jean, of 57 years and devoted father to his children, John Walter Boger and Diane Wilhelmina Hagen. He was a pillar to our family and will be greatly missed.

John was born on November 10, 1929 in Garrison, ND. He was one of eleven children born to the parents of Daniel and Wilhelmina Boger. He was raised on the family farm near Garrison, ND. They taught all 11 children to live off the land from the commodities they produced. He graduated from Garrison High School in 1947. He left North Dakota and served in the Marines Corp during the Korean War from 1951-1953. After being honorably discharged, he came to Lodi, CA to help his brother Elmer recover from an auto accident. John loved the Lodi Area and decided to settle, where he met his loving wife, Jean. John built his home in Acampo and was employed at General Mills for over 40 years. He received his certification in diesel mechanics in 1956 to further enhance his skills while working there. Upon his retirement, he continued his passion of gardening and canning. He was known for his canned Marchant peppers, dill pickles and making German sauerkraut with his mother's cabbage shredder. John's family and friends never left his home without flats of vegetables or canned goods (even his fellow workers at General Mills).
John's devotion to his wife and children was truly amazing! He and his wife, Jean, spent many hours in their garden. They taught and assisted their children with 4-H projects, resulting in many blue ribbons from the County Fair and Lodi Grape Festival. John has passed on his passions and talents of building, mechanics, and gardening to each of them. They will continue to share their father's passions and legacy.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; his two children, John W. and Diane (Lonnie) Hagen; his grandchildren, Hannah (Josh) Larson and John Robert; his younger sister, Ruby Boger (Garrison, ND); his sisters-in-law, Barbara (Leroy) Taylor and Dorothy (Jerry) Pruden; his sister-in-law, Gertrude (Fred) Boger (Kansas City, MO), and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Wilhelmina Boger; his brothers and sisters, Emma (Arnold) Halquist, Fred Boger, Elmer Boger, Edwin (Josie) Boger, William (Beverly) Boger, Rueben (Dorothy) Boger, Leo Boger (Cathy), Alvin (Doris) Boger, and Marlene (Jerome) Bauer; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Walter and Amanda Loney; his brother-in-law, Jack Loney and sister-in-law, Kathryn Loney.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 10th from 1 - 4 p.m. at Cherokee Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, Lodi CA. A celebration of life will take place Thursday, February 11th at 9 a.m. at Faith Community Church, 18621 CA-99, Acampo, CA, followed by a grave side service for family and friends at 11 a.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 & E. He was adventurous and industrious as a child and recounted stories of roaming the hills and town, collecting bottles to turn in for change to buy candy. He attended and graduated Calaveras High School with high marks and joined the Air Force. While serving in the Air Force he attended Syracuse University in New York where he studied Foreign Language and Communication. Mel was a very devoted son and always made sure his mom EraMae was well taken care of after his father passed away. He also attended and graduated from San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA where he met his wife Susan Larkey. Mel and Susan had two children, Melody and Wade, who became the joy and focus of Mel’s life. Mel loved to spend his free time taking the kids to do fun activities such as visits to the ocean, Half Moon Bay, the American River in Sacramento for rafting, and swimming in melted snow water in the Jackson foothills. He was young at heart and enjoyed playing right alongside the kids. Every Spring and Summer he would take the family to visit his aunt in Long Beach and to enjoy different amusement parks in southern California. Mel had a great sense of adventure and loved the outdoors. He would take the back road any chance he got just to explore and see the countryside. He enjoyed mechanics and loved working on and restoring his MG sports cars. He appreciated the simple things in life and often took drives just to watch the sunset.

Mel was very friendly and could strike up a conversation with almost anyone he met. He was known for being a very intellectual person and loved a good crossword puzzle. He was also very athletic and loved to play and watch basketball. After retiring from his career working at the post office, Mel relocated from Stockton, CA to the Sacramento area where he spent much of his time attending drive in movies, going out to eat, and exploring the beauty of the California countryside. He also attended Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Citrus Heights where he was baptized by Pastor Braden Barnum. Nadyne Phyllis Sessions

November 25, 1924 - January 27, 2021

On January 27, 2021, Nadyne P. Sessions made her Peaceful Heavenly journey home held tightly in the arms of her daughter Renee; surrounded by her son-in-law Marc, her grandson Brandon & wife Mallory, and her sister-in-law Kathryn Hardy.

Nadyne was born to Clarence A. Hardy and Lula Blanche O’Brian on November 25, 1924 in Little River, Kansas.

Nadyne, after graduating from Stockton High School in 1943, went directly to work for Bank of America where she worked until the birth of her daughter Renee in 1952. She met her handsome Airforce Pilot, LaVor Sessions, stationed at Stockton Field in 1945, on a blind date. Love blossomed and they were married on March 31, 1946. They were lovingly married for 60 years.

Nadyne became a full time homemaker and was actively involved in her community. While Renee was attending school she participated in all of the Waterloo and Linden community activities, fund raisers, spaghetti feeds, cookie sales, Whist Card Parties, Fashion Shows, PTA, 4H and Rainbow for girls. She was an active member in Linden Order of Eastern Star and a member of Stockton Covenant Church. Nadyne enjoyed accompanying her husband, LaVor to all the Linden Lion Club social gatherings. She was an ardent San Francisco Giants fan and knew most of the players by name. In her twilight years she thoroughly enjoyed the Girls Canasta Group and their monthly birthday lunches.

Besides her loving husband and daughter, her Pride and Joy was her Grandson, Brandon. “Nana” as Brandon called her became an integral part of his life. She was known to be “the Fetcher” when she baseball with Brandon and his young friends, in their backyard. Papa pitched, Nana fetched. It was quite the Team. Along with Papa, Nana attended all of Brandon’s school sports and musical activities throughout his life. Her proudest moment was when she regally walked on Brandon’s arm down the aisle at his wedding, February 22, 2020. She was the Queen escorted by her beloved “Little Prince” on his memorable day.

Donna Gedda

August 13, 1934 - January 25, 2021

Donna Gedda was born in August, 1934, and passed away on January 25th, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Neil, who proposed to her via phone, as she headed to Germany to teach for a year. Donna loved being a teacher and instilled the love of reading in countless children, including her cousin Marilyn's children and grandchildren. Christmas would not have been Christmas without the gifts of Scholastic books or Lady Bug magazine from Donna and Neil.
Donna and Neil spent summers traveling the world and taking road trips around California and Washington but they also treasured their time at home in Lodi. They were huge USC football fans, attending games with a group of like-minded friends. After they retired, Donna and Neil traveled even more but made time to volunteer at their local school, helping children to learn to read. Donna missed Neil tremendously after he died in 2010, but she kept busy by continuing to host and visit her family in Washington, traveling with family and friends, serving as president of her neighborhood's home owners' association and volunteering at the local library.

Donna was a wonderful cook whose fridge was never without a fresh batch of fudge. She set a beautiful table, always with the good China, napkin rings and candles. The children, as well as the adults, loved Happy Hour, which preceded each dinner and included hors d'oeuvres, homemade lemonade, great conversation and laughter.

Donna is survived by her brother, Walter Ohm and his daughter, a cousin Marilyn Hueffed (Jerry) and Marilyn and Jerry's children and grandchildren. We are thankful for the care given to her by the staff at Brookdale, Kettleman Lane. We will all miss Donna- her love, energy, zest for life, her positive attitude and her stories. No service at her request. We ask that you read a book to a child in her memory.
