Paul Megia

December 20, 1978 - May 26, 2021

Paul Dela Cruz Megia passed away on the morning of Wednesday May 26, 2021 after a tragic shooting that occurred at the Valley Transportation Authority. This took the lives of nine individuals. Paul cared for others and in his final moments, he risked his life to keep his brothers and sisters of the VTA safe. Paul’s heroism, strength and courage will never be forgotten. He had touched many lives with his infectious smile, his compassion, his leadership and his love for the outdoors. He will be remembered as someone with full of life and love.

Paul Dela Cruz Megia was born in Manila, Philippines and immigrated to the United States at the age of three and was a resident of Mountain House and Stockton, California. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, minoring in Production and Operations Management at Cal State East Bay in Hayward, California.

Paul joined Valley Transportation Authority in 2002 and worked his way up. He started as a Bus Operator Training, then Chaboya Bus Operator, Cerone Bus Operator and Light Rail Operator. In 2015 he was promoted to a Transportation Supervisor, then Transit Division Supervisor, and eventually an Assistant Superintendent in Service Management. His supervisor shared that he had a calming effect on others and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his employees.

He enjoyed the great outdoors, especially activities such as hiking, fishing, boating, wake-boarding, wake-surfing and snowboarding. Just to name a few. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending all these adventures with his family.

Paul is survived by his loving wife Nicole Chang, devoted 3 children Nathan, Gavin and Avery Megia and step-son Kyle Chang. He is also survived by his two sisters Lucitinna Megia and Julia Soriano whom admired him dearly and proud parents Leonard and Edna Megia that loved him to no end. His generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

Harold Nippe

August 02, 1923 - May 23, 2021

Harold L. Nippe 97 of Stockton, Ca. passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021. Harold was the son of Arthur and Goldie (Gill) Nippe and born at home in Strasburg, Illinois. After graduating high school he worked on the Richland Township roads with his father Arthur, soon after he was inducted into the Army. Harold served in the U S Army 625th Engineers Light Equipment Co. during WWII in Glassglow, Scotland and Manilla, Luzon, Philippine Islands. He married Zelma Krile March 16, 1926, they had five daughters. Harold was a life time member of the Strasburg American Legion Post 289 for 76 years and life time member of the Effingham  V.F.W. Post 1769.
 
Harold is proceeded in death by his parents Arthur William and Goldie Marie Nippe, his wife Zelma Lucile Nippe, daughters Patti Jo Nippe, Jo Ann Gennuso, sister Lula Bell, brothers Eugene and James.

He is survived by their daughters Linda Lou Young (Charles), Joyce Quiroz, Donna Cox, brother Roger Nippe (Deloris) and 13 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren, 9 Great Great Grandchildren, many nephews and nieces.

Donations can be made to the Cancer Society.

An urn committal service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday June 11, 2021 at Cherokee Memorial Park, located off Highway 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi CA, 95240.

Willodene Geneva Schmidt

Willodene Schmidt passed away peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2021, at her home in Lodi, California, with her family by her side. She was born July 30, 1925 in Cord, Arkansas to Dallas and Maude Slayden, the youngest of three children. After graduating from Strawberry High School in Arkansas, she relocated to California where she worked for American Standard on Treasure Island. She met the love of her life, Bernard Schmidt, at a dance in San Pablo. They were married July 22, 1950 for fifty-eight years, until his death in 2008. In addition to Bernard, Willodene is preceded in death by her parents, sister Verneal Martz, brother Floyd Slayden, and son-in-law Danny Webb.

Willodene will be remembered as a community supporter and member of the Lodi Newcomers Club. She was devoted to her family and friends, and passionate about gardening and flowers! Willodene also enjoyed arts & crafts, cooking, and interior decorating. She loved life and learning, taking on computing classes and working part-time as a sales associate and property manager. She was the loving mother to Paula Boling (Michael), Debra Webb, and Mark Schmidt (Tina). She was the joyful grandmother of ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

SERVICES:

A celebration of life will be held June 7, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Vineyard Chapel in Cherokee Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of San Joaquin or your preferred charity.

Edward William Carman Jr.

March 26, 1940 - May 17, 2021

Our cherished Ed passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2021 at the age of 81. Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son and friend. Ed was born on March 26, 1940 in Berkeley, California, graduating from Hayward High School in 1957. Directly after high school, Ed joined the Navy for 4 years. Following the Navy, Ed started a career as a farmer and went to work for the California Youth Authority which he retired from in 2000, after 38 years . Ed loved traveling with family, friends and his wife Sharon. He traveled to Hawaii over 50 times as it was his favorite vacation destination. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild, having fun, telling his life stories, and sharing his wisdom.

Ed was an active member of several clubs during his life including: horse and buggy society, The V8 Club of America, and the Delta Coin Club. His wonderful quick smile, contagious laugh, great personality, great stories, and huge heart will be greatly missed.

Ed is survived by his wife Sharon, children Edward Carman III, Maria Aldrete, and Christopher Dendy, grandchildren Jeannie Carman, Kelly Carman, Edward Carman IV, Elizabeth Dendy, Kathryn Chapman, Christopher Aldrete and great grandson Jeremiah Slaughter.

Thank you Ed for all the joy you brought into our lives, but most of all thank you for all your love.

The visitation for Edward will be held on June 2, 2021 from 9:00am to 10:00am in the Vineyard Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery 14165 Beckman Rd Lodi, California.

SERVICE

A memorial service will follow at 10:00am also held at the Vineyard Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery 14165 Beckman Rd Lodi, California.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE

The graveside services to follow at Cherokee Memorial Park, located off  Highway 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi CA, 95240.

Followed by graveside military honors.
