Julie Low

July 19, 1934 - January 17, 2025

Julie Y. Low, 90, of Stockton, CA, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025.

Julie (Tso Yun-Yee), was born on July 19, 1934 in Nanjing, China to parents Tso Su-Ping and Tso Fon-Zoo. During World War II, she and her family escaped the Nanjing Massacre. As a result of the subsequent Chinese Civil War, Julie and her family settled in Taiwan. Julie had great affection for Taiwan throughout her life, and it was where she attended high school and college. In Taiwan, she met her first husband, Sam Hilow and together they had two children, Anne and William Hilow. Sam’s military career took them all over Asia, Europe, and to the United States before they settled in Stockton. After their marriage ended, Julie met Dr. Lawrence Low and they married in 1982. They shared many happy years together until his passing in 2005. Through their union, Julie gained five step-children: Lawrence Jr., Leonard, Lester, Lyndon, and Mari-Anne.

For over 35 years, Julie was a realtor and worked with many Stockton residents. She was passionate about uplifting fellow Chinese immigrants and dedicated time to several organizations, including Jene Wah, Inc., the Chinese Cultural Society of Stockton, and the Confucius Church of Stockton/Chinese Benevolent Association. Julie was also an active member of the Sherwood Mall Walking Group and the Stockton Sister Cities Association. During her free time, she enjoyed being with family and friends, playing mahjong, and traveling the globe.  Last year, she proudly became a great-grandmother to Ellis Behne. Julie will be remembered for her impact on the local community, her spirited sense of humor, and her sweet smile.

She is survived by her children, Anne Hilow and William  Hilow; her step-children: Lawrence Low, Jr. and Kim, Leonard Low, Dr. Lester Low and Wendy, Dr. Lyndon Low and Elise, Mari-Anne Low, and Carol Dones; grandchildren: Janal and Eric Behne, Brent Low and Kione Wong, Charles Vassallo, Brittany Low, Garrett Low, Carina and Lane Larronde, Marisa Low, Ariana Low, Alexander Low, Rachael Gallagher, Brian Gallagher and Keagan Low; and great-grandchild  Ellis Behne.
