James J. Bitz

James BitzJames J. Bitz, age 76 passed away Tuesday, September 9th, 2015 in Lodi, California. James was born in Logan County, North Dakota on August 15th, 1939, to John and Mary (Stoller) Bitz. The family moved to Lodi in 1957 and James graduated from Lodi High School in 1958. James joined the U.S. Army on October 12th, 1959 and most of his service time was spent in Japan. James was discharged on January 22nd, 1962.

Jim was employed with Geohring Meats for 17.5 years until the plant closed. He then was employed with General Mills for 17.5 years until his retirement in 2006.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Wanda, his son Brian, and his grandson Brandon Bitz. Brother, Frank (Luella) Bitz, and sister, Phyllis (Tiny)(Ron Kasaka) Pleasant, along with one nephew and two nieces. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Harley Parks and sister-in-law Colleen Parks.

Edna Joyce Cugini

Edna Joyce Cugini, 83, of Stockton, passed away September 6, 2015. Born in French Camp, California on August 21, 1932 to Edmund and Margaret Vincelet, Edna worked for the Federal Government for many years. She will be missed by her daughters, Ronda Marton (Mark) and Janice Ratto (Harley), and her grandchildren, Scott Marton (Janell), Stephanie Guter (Rob), Chris Harrison (Natalia), James Ratto, and Melissa Ratto. Edna also leaves behind her siblings, Caroline Wait, Zinnia Infelese, Frances Boone, Cherie Solari, and Edmund Vincelet and 8 great grandchildren, Morgan, Luke, Kurt, Sara, Emily, Jordon, Abbigail, and Micah.

Her parents and siblings, Iona Parks, Carol Carey, Vernon Vincelet, Delores Fritts, Fred Vincelet, Glenn Vincelet, and Darryl Vincelet precede her in passing.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of Northern California, 1060 La Avenida, Mountain View, CA 94043.

Frank Lawrence Jacinto

Frank JacintoFrank Lawrence Jacinto passed away September 6, 2015, surrounded by his family. Frank was born in Lodi, California on May 16, 1921. He lived in Lodi all his life with the exception of his time in the military. He graduated from Lodi High School in 1939. He attended Cal Poly and played baseball for them for the year prior to his military service. Frank married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jane Tolliver, on May 30, 1941. Shortly after marrying, they were employed as civilians at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo. In their early married life, during World War II, they were stationed in Roswell, New Mexico and then in Point Hueneme, California.  During the Korean War they were stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. Following the Korean War they returned to Lodi. He was very proud of his 3 honorable discharges from the Army in 1946, the Navy in 1951 and the Air Force in 1953. After returning to Lodi he began his journey to receive his Bachelor of Arts from Sacramento State in 1958, followed by his Masters from UOP in 1964. After graduation he worked as a teacher for the Lincoln Unified School District and as a principal at Turner School in Lodi. He continued his path in education working as a counselor and teacher at Calaveras High School in San Andreas, CA. He retired after 40+ years in education from San Joaquin Delta College where he worked as a guidance counselor. Frank and Jane enjoyed traveling to the Southwest, fishing in Fort Bragg, and visiting grandkids when they lived in other parts of the country.  They also went on several Elderhostel trips. They traveled well into their 80s. Frank loved fishing, hunting, gardening, boating and going on long drives.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents Frank Jacinto and Theresa Riegel, loving wife of 74 years who passed away July 31, 2015, Mary Jane Jacinto, and siblings: Ray Reynolds and Bernice White. He leaves behind his daughter Janine, and son Keith (Maurie).  Frank also leaves behind his grandchildren: Andy, Melanie (Moses), Breanna (John David), Nate, Brindy (Nathaniel), Brooke, Allie and Keifer, and great- grandchildren: Logan, Andrew, Camden, Cruz and Luca.

Memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s name to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior’s Project.

JE Cates

J.E. Cates was born to Maebelle and William Cates on February 5, 1936 in Dennard, Arkansas. He attended Franklin High School and went on to pursue a career in welding. He retired with his wife Helen in Stockton California where he watched his grandchildren grow into the people they are today. He is survived by his children Jay Edward Cates, Billy Ray Cates (Irene), and Lori Cates Ortega (Rob); his brother Eugene Cates and sisters Betty Buttler and Peggy Perasso; and his 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife Helen Virginia Cates and grandson Cameron Tyler Ortega.

Alice Reza Vasquez, of Stockton, passed away August 31, 2015, at the age of 91. She was born on August 15, 1924, in Phoenix, Arizona Alice Vasquezto Facundo and Josefa Gradillas Reza.She is surived by her daughters: Irene Haro (Trinidad) of Lodi, Beatrice Richard of Lodi, and Victoria Rideout (John) of Roseburg, OR; 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 13 Great-great grandchildren; and sisters Jessie Pena and Irene Montez. She was preceded in death by her husband Rogelio Vasquez, daughter Elisa Sherman, and her son Richard Abreu.

Eleanor Kuwaye

Eleanor Kuwaye passed away on August 31, 2015 at the age of 81. Eleanor was born December 3, 1933, in Maulua, North Hilo, HI. She lived in Stockton, CA for over 20 years and worked as a food service worker until retiring in 2004. Eleanor loved shopping, traveling and spending time with the family.Survivors include her four children, Darryl (Nancy) Kuwaye, Karen Peters, Lori-Ann (Paul) Johnson, and Cindy (Bob) Udermann, and 11 grandchildren. Eleanor was preceded in death by Edmund Kuwaye, her husband of 63 years.

Eleanor was the kind of mother and wife that always provided her family with love and support, great food and common sense that gave her children the tools and work ethic they all have today. She will be dearly missed but will now finally be with Daddy.

Karen Frances (Bowling) King

Karen KingKaren Frances (Bowling) King was called home to the Lord on August 29, 2015 in Stockton, CA. Karen was born in Stockton at San Joaquin General on February 23, 1952 to John and Jimmie Bowling. She grew up in the Stockton and Manteca area, attending high school in Manteca. Karen worked for many years as a retail sales person but also enjoyed her time as a homemaker caring for her family. She enjoyed going to church and loved spending time with her family. Karen also loved her candy and dogs.  

Karen was preceded in death by her best friend Beverly Collins. She leaves behind her parents, John and Jimmie Bowling, children: Raymond Downes and Kelly King, grandchildren: Chad, Raymond, Tabitha, and Benjamin Downes and her brother Carl Bowling. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

 

Memorial Contributions may be made to may be made in Karen’s name to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

Ruben RodriguezRuben C. Rodriguez, 92, passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side at his home in Fresno, CA, on August 17, 2015.Ruben was born March 4, 1923 in Sanger, CA. Ruben is survived by his wife Margaret of 70 years, his daughter Gloria Ortega and husband Richard of Stockton, son John Rodriguez and wife Geri of Fresno, daughter Teresa Delgado and husband Reyes of Fresno, daughter Angie Gong and husband Ken of Fresno, daughter Lucy Hardin and husband Richard of Stockton, daughter Maryann Lemos and husband Billy of Stockton, daughter Debbie Foley and husband Pat of New York, daughter Joanne Ferrington and husband Cliff of Redding and son Jeffrey Rodriguez and wife Adriana of Stockton.

 

Ruben’s legacy also leaves behind 34 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Ruben lived the majority of his adult life in Stockton, California, living his last 27 years in Fresno, California.

Jeffrey Kesinger

Jeffrey Meade Kesinger, 58, passed away August 17, 2015. Jeff was born on June 1, 1957 in Alton, Illinois to Robert and Margaret Kesinger. He has worked as a Glazier for 35 years and at Livermore Glass for the past 18 years. Jeff loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jeff was preceded in death by his Father Robert Kesinger. He leaves behind his loving wife of 23 years ,Cheryl Kesinger of Manteca, together they had 4 daughters: Janine (Victor), Lucinda (T.J.), Stephanie, and Melanie (Jerry), as well as his prides of joy, his 7 grandchildren: Desiree, Damian, Gene, Lexi, Colin, Arianaa, Kailana, and soon to come Isabella. Jeff will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Leo Spanos

Leo SpanosAfter a ten year battle with cancer, Leonidas (Leo) Gus Spanos passed away peacefully in Roseville, California at the age of 80, with loved ones at his side on Sunday, August 16, 2015.  He was the son of the late Gus Spanos and Evanthia Tsopelas Spanos.Leo was born in April 1935, raised in Stockton and was a lifelong resident of California. He attended high school in Stockton after which he served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a radioman while being deployed to the Republic of Korea during the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged, Leo was a designer/drafter in San Jose supporting DoD projects for Lockheed Martin and Boeing Co. He later owned a glass company servicing the San Francisco Bay Area and became an avid gardener, billiards enthusiast and San Diego Chargers fan. Leo was preceded by loving wife Paulann Braswell, his loving parents and his brother Daniel Spanos. He is survived by his daughters, Leonne Jeanette, Stefani Ann and Melani Evanthia; grandchildren Nicholas and Alexis, Allie, Natalie and Chloe, John Paul and Alexandra; brothers Alex and George (Spanos); sisters, Stella Graham and Madeline Madsen, former wife Barbara Daniels as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church or the American Cancer Society. The family would especially wish to acknowledge Mr. and Mrs. Alex and Faye Spanos and nieces Dea Berberian and Evie Robinson for their continued generosity and care during Leo’s later years.
