Bruce was born to Barbara and Eldon Yates in Stockton, CA, older brother to Eileen Yates. He graduated from Linden High School and attended Delta College and UOP. Bruce founded Yates Electric at the age of 24 and operated the business for 36 years. He married Carol shortly after and was a dedicated husband throughout their 34 years of marriage. Bruce and Carol were the loving parents of two children, as well as raising two sons from Carol's previous marriage.

Bruce is preceded in death by his beloved mother Barbara Yates, grandfather Mike Nessler, aunt Janet Bryan, uncle Michael Nessler and grandson David Williams. He is survived by his wife Carol Yates, father Eldon Yates, great-grandmother Viola Nessler, sister Eileen Yates, son Kenneth Yates, daughter Jessica Yates and her fiancé Oliver Tapalla, stepson Aaron Williams, his wife Regina Williams, stepson Richard Williams, granddaughter Lucy Escalante, grandson Waylon Escalante, grandson Eric Williams, nephew Justin Dillard, and numerous other beloved family members.

Bruce enjoyed the admiration of those close to him for his tireless work ethic, peerless sense of humor, and eagerness to help friends and family. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and working with his hands. In his later years, Bruce embraced his role as a grandfather and spent as much time as possible with his grandchildren Lucy, Waylon and Ryan as well as his niece Blakelee Dillard, and taking trips to his homes in Twin Falls, Idaho and Wilseyville, CA with his family. Bruce cherished the hope of welcoming his grandson Lorenzo Owen Yates Tapalla into the world later this year. Bruce was an active and beloved member of Lodi Bowmen and the Lodi Moose Lodge throughout his life.

Helen Pike

March 6, 1928 - February 23, 2018 Cherokee Memorial is honored to serve the Pike family.

Helen Pike was born to Bud E. Lewis and Cornelia Ethel Carter Lewis in Stockton, California.  She was the beloved wife of Walter John “Jack” Pike for 67 years.  Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Roberta Wood, Neva Twarog, Norma Noceti,  and Betty Jean Roberts, her brothers, Larry Lewis and Jack Lewis, and her children, Ricky and Cathy.

Helen was a happy, fun loving person, full of stories and laughter.  She played the piano at family gatherings, and led the carol singing at Christmas time.  She was very close to her mother and her sisters and they socialized often.  She and her sisters would get together and put their lipstick on and style their hair, and say “are the seams in my stockings straight?” before their husbands took them out to dinner or dancing.  They loved being together and they had many good times.

Helen was a club woman. She belonged to several organizations and served as an officer in most of them.  She belonged to Tuesday Club, Women’s Club, Philomathean Club, and several bridge groups. She sang with the Sweet Adelines for many years and traveled with them to conventions and meetings all over the United States.  She also traveled with Jack to England.

Helen was a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews.  They all loved being with Auntie Helen, whether it be singing, dancing, story telling or picnicking, it was always a fun time. They are Bob, Bill, and Glenda, Roberta’s children; Carol, Donna, Virginia, Peggy and Dave, Neva’s children; Larry, Dick, and Anita, Norma’s children; and Jenny and Debby, Betty Jean’s children; Barbara, Bud, Elizabeth, Patricia, and Robert, Larry’s children; and Jack, Judy, and Jerry, Jack’s children.

Helen and Jack both loved a trip to a casino.  They would take the bus to Tahoe or Reno with Babe and Kenny, or Norma and Richard, Neva and Len, and sometimes Grandma Lewis would accompany the group.  Jack and Helen even made a trip up to Black Oak Casino where one of their grand nieces was employed.

Helen and Jack lived on Cleveland Street in Stockton for most of their marriage.  In 2016 they sold their house and moved to Rio Las Palmas.  Helen suffered from macular degeneration and cancer.  She passed away from cancer on February 23, 2018.  She was articulate, aware, alert, and cognizant up to her final days.  We all loved her.
