Kapriel "Kappy" Nahigian
Kapriel “Kappy” Nahigian was born November 25th, 1921, in Exeter, California, near Visalia. The oldest of six siblings, Kappy had 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Two years later, Kappy’s family moved to Fowler, California, near Fresno, where his family farmed a grape vineyard for raisins.
In 1942, at the age of 21 years, Kappy was drafted into the United States Army and completed his training at Camp Roberts near San Luis Obispo. Later he was transferred to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and then Hawaii. He served in the Pacific as a rifleman until 1945 when he was honorably discharged as a Private First Class.
After his service in the War, Kappy began working for his uncle, in Modesto, as a busboy, then waiter. He learned from his uncle and the chefs, and eventually decided to open his own restaurant. When his brother came back from the war, they opened their first restaurant, El Tehran, in Stockton, in 1948. And operated it for seventeen years.
Kappy met his wife, Lora, as a customer in the El Tehran, and married her on June 3, 1951. They lived happily through 58 years of marriage, and enjoyed traveling on many trips together, before Lora passed away in 2009. They had 2 daughters Judi and Lori, both of Lodi, and had a son, Stephen (deceased), who was a renowned oral surgeon in Southern California.
Eventually, Kappy opened his own business, Kappy’s Coffee Shop, in 1965. After 18 years, Kappy sold his restaurant and again joined with his brother Carl at Carl’s Truckstop in Stockton. Kappy was famous for his homemade pies and enjoyed making dozens of them that he delivered to his friends around the holidays.
Kappy’s favorite pastimes were watching sports on TV and knowing every team and most players’ statistics. Mostly, he enjoyed watching and following his grandson Michael Rishwain’s baseball career from little league into college. Also, he greatly enjoyed his Saturday morning donut friends, his monthly breakfast with his workout group, and his many lunches with buddies. Perhaps his favorite of all were his many trips to the casinos with his loving daughter Judi.
In his later years Kappy moved to Lodi to be near his daughters who were a huge part of his daily life, to the very end.
To quote his daughters, “Kappy was the sweetest man in the world and would do anything for anyone”.
Kappy was preceded in death by loving wife of 58 years Lora Nahigian, son Dr. Stephen Nahigian, grandson Marc C. Rishwain, and many siblings. He leaves behind his two daughters Lori Rishwain (Ben) and Judi Nahigian, grandchildren: Michael Rishwain, Candace, Vanessa and Rex Nahigian, Ben and Nick Rishwain, daughter in law Pat Nahigian and many friends. Kappy will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made in Kappy’s name to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.

At the family’s request burial will be held privately at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi.

A celebration of Kappy’s life will be held at 11am Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Stockton Golf and Country Club, 3800 Country Club Blvd, Stockton.

Carol Edith Smith passed away September 22, 2015 at Somerford Place in Stockton. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Smith, six siblings, and one great-grandchild.

Scott Douglas Mills passed away at the age of 42 on September 20, 2015. Scott was born in Stockton on April 25, 1973 to Lawrence Mills and Glenda Smalley. He was a 17-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol. Brian Gardner
Brian Gardner passed away peacefully at home on September 19, 2015 with his loving wife, Suzie, by his side.
Brian was born on July 19, 1953 in Crediton, England. At an early age, Brian was focused and determined. At 16 he entered into a five-year helicopter engineering apprenticeship with Westlands Aeronautics in Yeovil, Somerset, England. After graduating, he started working with Bristow Helicopters with his first assignment taking him to Abu-Dhabi. After travelling extensively throughout the Middle East for Bristow Helicopters, Brian landed in Modesto in 1983 where he started working for Memorial Hospital maintaining their Medi-flight helicopter for 18 years. Brian finished his career with East Bay Regional Park District in Hayward. He was highly respected in his specialized industry yet Brian would humbly tell people he simply “maintained helicopters” – there was rarely anything he couldn’t repair.
In 1985, Brian and Suzie met while attending “Tootie the Cow’s” birthday party in Knights Ferry. Suzie was smitten by Brian’s sense of adventure and British accent while he was enamored with her love of travel and captivating smile. They were married in May 1987 and over the next 28 years their escapades took them to Australia, Italy, England, France, New Zealand and other parts of the world, visiting friends and family.
Brian’s passion for riding motorcycles was shared by Suzie. Whether he was personally restoring his 1953 Harley or Moto Guzzi’s, he was in his element while working on or riding them. He taught many a novice how to safely navigate the roads and logged thousands of miles alone and with friends, especially enjoying his rides in the Sierra Nevada foothills and high country as well as throughout the Western United States.
An avid reader and historian, Brian was an enthusiastic listener and conversationalist. When you talked to Brian, he was genuinely interested in you and made you feel like you were the only person in the room. He treasured spending time with his family and friends; above all he cherished his time with his beloved Suzie. Brian made the ordinary extraordinary for everyone who was part of his life.
Brian is survived by his adoring wife, Suzie; his five sisters, Margaret (Maurice) Mann, Claire (Tony) Patch, Anne (Ron) Grove, Kathryn (Mike) O’Brien, and Jillian (Ken) Wannell; his brother, David (Jane) Gardner; and numerous nieces and nephews in England, Australia, New Zealand, and California. His parents, Norah Augusta and Francis Buckland Gardner of England, precede him in death.

Ha insegnato a tanti principianti come guidare con prudenza, facendo migliaia di miglia da solo e con amici. Gli piaceva particolarmente girare sulle colline della Sierra Nevada, sulle montagne e per tutto l’ovest degli Stati Uniti.
Era un lettore e storico appassionato, e anche un grande ascoltatore e conversatore. Quando parlavi con Brian, mostrava il più sincero interesse e ti faceva sentire come se tu fossi l’unica persona nella stanza. Adorava passare del tempo con la sua famiglia ed i suoi amici, e soprattutto apprezzava il tempo passato con Suzie. Brian faceva sembrare il quotidiano come straordinario per tutte le persone nella sua vita.

Wilmer C. Peterson
After a long and happy life, Wilmer Peterson passed away on September 19th, following his wife of 73 years, Jean Rex Peterson who died May 4, 2012. The Petersons are survived by their two daughters, Nancy (David) Finch and Diane Peterson, grandchildren Michael, Jonathan, Chris and Vickie and 6 great grandchildren. Mr. Peterson was a long time employee of the Carnation Company where he began in milk delivery and rose to a management position in the Bay area. His many friends and neighbors in Lodi provided him with help and comfort during his last illness for which he often expressed much gratitude. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Baptist Church, Lodi. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is honored to serve the Peterson Family.

Samantha Cromwell
Samantha Louise Cromwell (Bryson), born December 29th, 1983, she entered into eternal rest on Sept. 18 2015. She was surrounded by her loving family.Samantha will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband Benjamin, her daughter's Abagail and Addilynn, her parents Debra and Ronald, her sister Stacy, her grandmother Shirley Barnhart, her father James Bryson, her mother and father in law Shari and Cliff and her sister in law Priscilla. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been set up at the Bank of Stockton Lodi for Abagail and Addilynn Cromwell.

Adolph George
Adolph passed away peacefully at his home in Lodi at the age of 80 years old following a 4 year illness. He will be missed by many including his wife Barbara whom he often called Babs, who was the love of his life for over 62 years of marriage.
Adolph was born in Thayer, Missouri on April 13, 1935 and passed away on September 18, 2015. He is survived by his wife Barbara George, a daughter, Starr Gonzales and one son, Michael George and wife Linda. Adolph was a grandfather known as Papa to 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He has also survived by 2 sisters Virginia Warn of Kansas and Earline Norris of Kentucky, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Adolph and Barbara married June 20, 1953, and lived a good portion of their lives in the San Joaquin Valley area raising their 2 children Starr and Michael (Mike). Adolph was a truck driver for 39 years with local teamsters 439.
Adolph was a church member for many many years and church deacon. Because of his love for the Lord and his personal relationship, he acknowledged the Lord in music by playing guitar, bass-guitar and piano, and using his voice to give honor and glory to his Heavenly Father.
Adolph has proceeded in death by his parents Henry George and Alpha-Omega and Step-dad Bob Templeton, and 2 brothers Joe George of Missouri and Caraway George of California, and his twin sister Adell Stone of Redbluff, California.
Adolph will be deeply missed by those who dearly loved him. He leaves a legacy and much wisdom and spirit which will live on and be shared by those surviving family members. The family is grateful for the care Adolph received from Community Hospice of Stockton.

Mildred DeWitt
Mildred Louise DeWitt passed away at the age of 96 on September 18, 2015. She was born in Tolar, Texas to Henry and Maggie Neely on March 23, 1919. Mildred attended John Tarleton State College in Stephenville, Texas and North Texas State University in Denton, Texas where she received her Bachelors Degree
. Mildred taught school for a number of years before marrying her true love, Floyd Thomas DeWitt on September 10, 1948. They spent 27 wonderful years together until he passed away March 22, 1975. They relocated to Stockton where they began their life together. Mildred enjoyed caring and raising her children. She later returned to the workforce in 1968 when her husband became ill. She taught for Stockton Unified School District, San Joaquin Delta College and Sharpe Army Depot. Mildred retired in November of 1982 and dedicated the rest of her life to being there for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Floyd Thomas DeWitt, parents Henry Clark Neely, Sr. and Maggie Deering Neely, son Lloyd Keith DeWitt, brother H.C. (Clark) Neely, Jr., sister Maxine (Neely) Yetter, brother Windell Neely, and brother James Neely. She leaves behind her daughter Verna “Louise” Williams (Larry), grand daughters: Heather Dawn Kraft (Greg) and Kimberlee BreAnne Williams, great-grandchildren: Bethany Marie, Ryan Joseph, and Adam Thomas Kraft and Rylee Marie Elias. She also leaves behind her brother Othel Neely (Mary Ruth) of Waco, TX, brother Garnet Neely of Huntsville, AL and many nieces and nephews.
