Dimitra Lewis

October 28, 1929 - May 9, 2017 Dimitra “ Toula” Lewis, a long-time resident of Lodi, Ca, died Tuesday the 9th of May at Tracy Sutter Hospital.

Born in 1929 in Greece, Dimitra went to school to become a seamstress. She immigrated to Canada in 1957, then to California in 1959. There she met Billy Lewis and married. The couple settled in Lodi Ca. where they built their own home. Dimitra was a homemaker and mother and enjoyed gardening. Her passion was cooking for friends and serving her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Georgia Lewis of Lodi and Goldie Hineman of Tracy, Ca. She also has five grandchildren, Quinn Daugherty, Rhyan Daugherty, Lacey Hineman, Delaney Hineman and Marcus Hineman. Please donate to your favorite charity in leiu of flowers. Nobuye Sakahara

Nobuye Sakahara passed away peacefully on May 9, 2017 in Stockton, California. She celebrated her 96th birthday on April 25.  Nobuye is survived by her husband of 72 years, Bill Sakahara; her daughter, Glyneth Sakahara (John McKay); daughter-in-law, Teresa Sakahara;  son-in-law, Bill Kohler; grandchildren Anne Taylor (John Taylor) and Casey Eklund; and great grandson, Miles Taylor.  Nobuye is survived by a younger brother, Tom Daijogo (Barbara) and numerous nieces and nephews.  Nobuye is predeceased by her son, Steven Sakahara and her daughter, Jeanne Kohler; parents, Ichiro and Shiye Daijogo; and siblings Kazuto Daijogo, Tsutaye Tanaka, Yoshiye Kamei, and James Daijogo.  Nobuye grew up in Placer County and graduated from Placer Union High School in 1940.  She met and married the love of her life, Bill Shizuto Sakahara at Tule Lake Internment Camp in 1945.   In 1946  they moved to Lodi where they raised their children, Glyneth, Steven, and Jeanne and where they continued to reside. Nobuye found enjoyment as a homemaker along with a brief career as a beautician.  She had a great love of her garden and she would most often be found tending to her flowers.  Anne and Casey remember spending many childhood weekends with their grandparents, fishing at Lake Camanche, tending to the koi in their backyard and eating Nobuye’s apple pies for which she was well-known.

The family appreciates the attention Nobuye received from caregiver Alma Ancheta and the staff at Abbey Covey Care Home during her last months of life.  Nobuye will be remembered for her kindness to others and her friendly smile.

A special thank you to Vitas Hospice for their kind and gentle care.

At her request, there will be no services and internment will be at Cherokee Memorial Park.

Elmer Nichols

January 9, 1923 - May 5, 2017 Elmer Nichols, a long-time Lodi resident, passed away May 5, 2017 at the age of 94. Elmer was born on January 9, 1923 in Winton, CA to Jacob and Lena Nichols, and lived in Winton until he honorably served in the US Army Air Corps in 1943 to fight in WWII. He married Marjorie Isabelle (Knittel) on January 12, 1944. He owned a Dairy in Winton for several years before moving to Lodi in 1953. He worked for Ralph Kehn making grape boxes and later went to work for Lodi Super Mold where he worked for 30 years along with part-time work making boxes for Reynolds Nailing. His hobbies included fishing, camping, playing guitar and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years Marjorie Nichols; sons: Dennis and Gregory Nichols; daughter Linda Nichols; 4 grandchildren: Jacob Nichols, Brian Nichols, Cordell Abney and Heather Nichols; 6 great-grandchildren: Khyla Nichols, Brianna Abney, Weston Abney, Lucas Nichols, Henry Nichols, and Olivia Nichols. Elmer was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 4 sisters in Merced and Winton, CA.

A visitation will take place from 4-8 pm on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way Lodi, CA.

Randy William Oswood

Randy William Oswood September 7, 1967 – May 4, 2017

Randy Oswood passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on May 4, 2017. He was born in French Camp, California  on September 7, 1967 to Linda and William Oswood.

Randy is survived by mother Linda Oswood, brothers Jerry Oswood (Liz), Jim Oswood (Tracey), and sister Tammy Cargill (Donnie). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

He is preceded in death by father William Oswood and baby brother Danny Ray Oswood.

Randy was a member of Stone Corral Community Church in Valley Springs, California for 12 years. For 20 years he was a member of Calaveras Twirlers Square Dance Club. Randy’s personality was bigger than life; he never met a stranger. He became friends with everyone he met. He never needed a microphone in church because his voice resonates through everyone’s soul. Randy will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to have known him.

Viewing will be held at 1pm-2pm on Saturday May 20, 2017 at the Vineyard Chapel at 14165 N. Beckman Rd in Lodi.

Evelyn Eleanor Sunbury

Evelyn Eleanor Sunbury January 14, 1924 - May 4, 2017

Evelyn Eleanor Sunbury daughter of the late Joseph S. Solari and Elvira Lagorio Solari, was born on January 14, 1924 and passed away May 4, 2017.   Raised in the Morada area she attended Davis School, St. Mary's High School, and the College of the Pacific.  In May 1947 she married Roger Sunbury, a bridge engineer and native of Ohio.  Roger's engineering took them to live in various parts of northern California.  In 1952 they returned to Stockton to make their home in Morada.  Mrs. Sunbury was past president of the Davis School PTA, past president of the Morada Garden Club, and past president of the Waterloo Morada Fire Dept. Womens' Aux.  Mrs. Sunbury enjoyed gardening in the park-like setting around her home, cooking for her family, flower arranging, decorating for holidays, tole painting, traveling with her husband throughout the United States, and antiquing.  She especially delighted in the visits of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Her husband Roger Sunbury of 50 years preceded her in death, and her brother Raymond J. Solari and granddaughter Katrina Elizabeth Sunbury.  She is survived by her children Patti Sarkany (Andy) of Glenview, IL, Eric Sunbury (Nicolette) of Bakersfield, Gary Sunbury of Fresno, and Tim Sunbury (Ronda) of Linden; 8 grand-children, Greta Peralta Pettersen (Stian), Nick Sarkany (Courtney), Patrick, Matthew, Kirk, Kelly, Ian, and Colleen Sunbury; 4 great grandchildren Eva, Stella, Olav Pettersen, and Theodore Sarkany; a brother Joe S. Solari of Morada; nieces and nephews. Evelyn will be greatly missed by many.
