She was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on November 7, 1941 and spent her first years living in Billings, Montana with her parents, Buenaventura and Martha Bayaca. Her family farmed vegetables in different states before settling in Stockton, CA. In that time, three more sisters joined the family, Anita, Theresa and Rose. She then pursued her degree at San Jose State University and graduated with a B.F.A. in Illustration in 1964. They moved to Oakland, CA where they raised their four children, Veronica, Victor Jr. Sabrina and Ben. They eventually settled in Acampo, CA where Susan and Victor cultivated beautiful gardens and grew a plethora of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Susan passed on her creative talents and her love of art and music to her children. She worked as an illustrator for decades for many companies throughout the bay area. She loved painting with pastels and often worked the California State Fair in Sacramento for many years as a portrait artist. Painting on location with watercolors was one of her passions. She later earned a double Masters in Education from California State University of San Bernardino in 1999 and worked in the Stockton school district as a Special Educator for over 12 years.
