Bernice Schaffer

March 25, 1923 - April 2, 2019

Bernice Agnes Schaffer was born on March 25, 1923 in Dunn, North Dakota to Max and Pauline Lehmann. She went home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2019 at age 96. Bernice was united in marriage to Theodore Schaffer on June 15, 1941. They enjoyed 38 years of marriage. They had 3 children, Maxine, Floyd and Thomas. Bernice was raised in and around Hebron and Dickinson North Dakota and moved to Lodi, California as a teenager.

Bernice was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed the time she spent as a Pink Lady.

Bernice is survived by her daughter, Maxine (Wayne) Williams, Sons Floyd (Patricia) Schaffer and Tom (Lita) Schaffer, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Pauline Lehmann, Husband Theodore Schaffer, brothers Max and Lloyd Lehmann.

SERVICES:
There will be a service held Saturday, April 13th, at 2:00p.m. at the Vineyard Chapel in Cherokee Memorial Park, located at 14165 N. Beckman Road, Lodi CA, 95240.

Fred Trammel

December 4, 1943 - April 1, 2019

Fred R. Trammel, age 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2019 at home in Banta, California. He was born December 4, 1943 in Stockton, California and raised in Tracy, California. He worked as an Heavy Equipment Operator for over 30 years until retirement. After retirement, he was able to enjoy fishing, hunting, gardening and tinkering around his home. Fred is survived by his wife of 58 years, Melinda Trammel and his four children, Fred Jr. and Julie Trammel from Georgia, Cheryl and Mike Jimenez from Tracy, Joe and Carmen Trammel from Valley Springs and Christina Trammel from Stockton and his six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents Jeff and Sue Trammel, and his five brothers George Trammel, Samuel Trammel, Jeffrey Trammel, Roger Trammel and Clifford Trammel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday April 6, 2019 at Cherokee Memorial, The Vineyard Chapel. Gravesite burial and service will follow after the viewing. We will be hosting a celebration of life for Fred at 11793 Micke's Grove Park, Lodi California at Delta Shelter.

Rodney Bell

January 15, 1933 - March 31, 2019

Rodney Ellis Bell was born in Bismarck, ND, on January 15, 1933, the son of George Dewey and Martha Pearl (Ellis) Bell and died March 31, 2019, at the Lodi Memorial Hospital in Lodi, CA. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1951, and from Jamestown College, ND, in 1955. He received a Master of Arts (History) from the University of Michigan the following year before enlisting in the US Army Security Agency and completed his Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He married his high school sweetheart, Fayne Dorean Patera, on December 29, 1956. While stationed at Fort Devens, MA, he was selected to attend the Army Language School in Monterey, CA. After graduation, he was assigned to the National Security Agency outside of Washington, DC, as a Chinese translator.
Rod began his doctoral studies at the University of Pittsburgh on an Andrew Mellon Fellowship in the Fall of 1959, and then returned to the University of Michigan on a Danforth Fellowship where he eventually completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree in History. He began his teaching career at his alma mater in Jamestown, ND, and in 1970, he accepted a position in the History Department at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. He became Head of the department in 1975, a title he held until his retirement in 2000. Rod and his wife moved to Lodi, CA, in 2004.
Rod is survived by his wife, Fayne, three daughters, Carolyn (Roy) Arnold of Wichita, KS, Elizabeth (Michael) Moreno of Stockton, CA and Kathleen (Kevin) Isbell of Walnut Creek, CA, one son Thomas (Jennifer) Bell, of Gig Harbor, WA, and his dearly loved grandchildren RJ (Raven) and Ryan Arnold, Katie and Kristine Moreno, Gavin and Sienna Isbell, and Andrew, Jason, Evan, Joshua and Rowan Bell.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, S/Sgt. George Dewey, Jr., who died in WWII, and an infant son, Gregory Drew.

SERVICE
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Bismarck, ND, on Thursday, April 18, 2019.
