Lyle Cooper

July 7, 1942 - May 22, 2019

Lyle George Cooper, 76, of Acampo, passed away from this world to his heavenly home on May 22, 2019. He was born in Stockton, California on July 7, 1942 to Sherman and Pauline Cooper.  After graduating from Franklin High School in Stockton, Lyle served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps. 

When he returned home he met and married the love of his life,  Joan.  In 1965 Lyle joined the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office and remained there through retirement in 1999.  Since his retirement he has spent his time serving others as a Long Term Care Ombudsmen.  He loved playing golf, traveling in the RV and having breakfast with his SO buddies.   Lyle could fix just about anything.   One of his favorite ways to spend a relaxing day was tinkering in his garage on whatever was needing repair at the time.  Lyle is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan E. Cooper, and their three children Mark Cooper (Kimberly), Tami Root (Greg), and Karen Sayles (Andrew) and nine grandchildren.  He also leaves behind his sister Sherry Williams and brother Robert Cooper (Sharon).  Preceding him in passing are his parents and many aunts and uncles.

VISITATION
A visitation will be held on Thursday,  May 30, 2019 from 4pm – 8pm at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, located at 831 Industrial Way, Lodi, CA 95240.

SERVICE
A service will be held on Friday May 31, 2019 at 10:00 am at Vineyard Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, 14165 N. Beckman Rd, Lodi, CA 95240.

A reception will follow services at First Baptist Church, 267 N. Mills Avenue, Lodi, CA.

Sally Jackson

March 29, 1935 - May 22, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Sally Anne Jackson announces her passing on Wed., May 22, 2019, at the age of 84. Sally will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Howard, their children Laura (William), David (Hazel), granddaughter Melissa, step granddaughter Hannah and brother Harold Nielsen. Sally was predeceased by her parents, Herman and Dorothy Nielsen and sisters Carol and Peggy. She will also be dearly remembered by her extended family and wonderful friends.

Sally was born in Pelican Rapids, MN and lived in Stockton, CA for 75 yrs. She was a locally renowned artist. Her passion was teaching art to children and sharing her artistic ability with others. She was a real estate agent for many years in Stockton. Sally will be greatly missed by all that loved her, including her golfing friends at SGCC.

SERVICE

A funeral service in memory of Sally will be held on Thurs., May 30, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Vineyard Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, 14165 N. Beckman Rd, Lodi, CA 95240 with Pastor Mark Hall officiating. Reception to follow at Stockton Golf & Country Club from 3:00-5:00 pm.

Tony Heathington

November 25, 1955 - May 21, 2019

Tony Ray Heathington of Stockton, California, passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 21st at the age of 63. He is preceded in death by his mother, JoAnn Heathington. Tony is survived by his father Ray Heathington, sister Shelly Smoak and his four children; daughter Toni Berning, and sons Christopher Heathington, Bo Heathington, and Richard Heathington.

Tony enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved to fish, hunt, gambling and playing bingo. He was an avid fan of Harley Davidson motorcycles and the San Francisco Giants. Tony was a member of the Cement Masons Local 400 for 20 years.

Graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 29th at 10:00 am at Cherokee Memorial Park, located at Harney Lane at Hwy 99, Lodi, CA 95240. Memorial will follow at 11:00am at Salvation Army 525 W. Lockeford St. Lodi, CA.

Michael Gribaudo

April 22, 1948 - May 19, 2019

Mike Gribaudo passed away in Lodi on May 19, 2019 at the age of 71. Mike was born in Lodi to Lawrence and Edith Gribaudo. He attended local schools and then joined the US Army, where he served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. Mike owned and operated Gribaudo Transfer and Material. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a master garage sale negotiator. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He would bake his famous 3-layer cakes for the birthdays of family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years: Sally; children: Amy Ali (Ziad), Renee Olson (George); 5 grandchildren: Brayden, Vincent, Andrew, Jude, and Alexa. He is also survived by sisters: Dolores Cooper, and Lorraine Somers (Doug); brother Larry Gribaudo, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service
A Funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Vineyard Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, 14165 N. Beckman Rd, Lodi, CA 95240, with burial following at Cherokee Memorial Park, located at Harney Lane at Hwy 99, Lodi, CA 95240.

Lynne Hammer Sandberg

February 17, 1937 - May 18, 2019 

Lynne Hammer Sandberg was born on February 17, 1937, in Stockton, CA. She lived on Hammer Lane. She passed away on May 18, 2019, in Modesto, CA.  Lynne attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from Stockton High School.  She worked as Secretary at Linden Elementary and for Neumiller and Beardsley Law Firm. Her next career choice was to start a Travel Agency known as “The Travel Bunch.”

Lynne loved her grandchildren, gardening and her work with the Daughter of the American Revolution, and the Ladies Auxiliary California Pioneers. She was also an avid Bridge player. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Lynne is survived by her children: Judi Laura Fuqua, Richard Leo Staples III his wife Veronica Staples, and Michael John Staples; grandchildren: Kevin Henry Fuqua, Sherrie Lynne Johnston, her husband Eric David Johnston Jr., Nicholas John Fuqua, Grant Scott Staples, Victor Paul Staples, Branden Keithly Staples, Mallory Clarice Staples, and Makenna Truth Staples.

She is preceded in death by parents John and Lucille Hammer, husband Harry William Sandberg, and son-in-law Ronald Ray Fuqua.

SERVICES:

Graveside services will be held 10:00am on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the Stockton Rural Cemetery, 2350 Cemetery Ln, Stockton, CA 95204. Reception to follow at the Linden Lions Club, 5041 N Market Street Linden, Ca 95236

Leroy Meidinger (Lee)

July 2, 1932 - May 18, 2019

Leroy Alvin Meidinger (Lee), 86, peacefully passed away on May 18, 2019, reunited with his youngest son Todd, his parents Alvin and Tillie, and in-laws, Ernest & Martha Krein. Lee was born in Wallace, ND on July 2, 1932, moved to Lodi, with family, at age 5. Mostly he attended Seventh Day Adventist Elementary and Lodi Academy. He finished his senior year at Lodi High School, class of 1951. Lee served in the US Navy, from 1951 to 1955, as a radio operator app. aboard his esteemed USS Saint Paul - CA73 during the Korean War - Go Saints.
Lee is survived by his wife Beverly, 2 children, Russell Meidinger and Lori Meidinger, sister Betty Ghan (Lavern), an "adopted" sister Janet Bricker (Don), 3 grandchildren Ashiley Knight (Bradley), Samantha Meidinger and Brandon Meidinger, 2 great-grandchildren Penelopea & Tobias Knight, 5 nieces and 4 nephews, also, Merwyn Krein (DeLayne) and Jerry Krein (Inez) of Bismarck, ND.
Thank you to Dr. James Hoff and special staff, & Ken Heffel, staff at Vienna, especially the Physical Therapy Unit.

Jerry Horst

January 1, 1948 - May 18, 2019

Jerry Lee Horst went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 17, 2019.

He was born on January 1, 1948 in Lodi, CA and passed away (at Stanford) after a long battle with cancer.

He grew up attending Lodi schools and graduated from Lodi High in 1966. Form there he went on to attend Delta College and Fresno State.

While in high school and college Jerry played football and was on the wrestling team.

He loved water skiing and actually purchased a boat before even buying a car to pull that boat. As the years went on, he played baseball on various teams, snow skied, golfed, and especially loved fishing. When available, he would go with any of his friends who asked.

He loved watching and going to basketball and hockey games, especially the Kings and Stockton Heat games. Above all this, his passion was for NHRA drag racing. He recorded every race and watched them over and over again. He went to all races in California over the last 15 years. His goal in retirement was to drag his wife to as many races in the United States as he could.

His very first job in high school was working at a “full service” gas station and as a draftsman at Super Mold (re-treading tires) in Lodi. After college, he went on to work at the San Joaquin County Assessor’s Office. From there he moved into the water/waste-water industry as an electrical engineer and a national sales manager. He spent the next 42 years committed to this profession, eventually retiring in December 2018.

He met the love of his life, Debbie Thompson, and they were married in August of 1970 and lived their entire lives in Lodi. He and Debbie were especially involved with their church, and Jerry went with the high school group on mission trips to Mexico. The most important people in his life, besides his wife, were his two daughters and four grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Fred Horst Jr., his mother, Maxine Horst, and his brother-in-law, Bruce Campora.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Horst; daughters Dionne (Marc) Detraz and Rebecca (Kenny) Mullen; grandchildren Lola Detraz (10), Teah Detraz (8), Olivia Mullen (4), and Noah Mullen (16 mos.); his sister, Cindi (Bruce) Campora, nephew, Chad Campora, and niece Gina Campora Bowen.

LeRoy Gilsdorf

March 13, 1930 - May 17, 2019

The world has lost a really good man. LeRoy Guido Gilsdorf died May 17 in Stockton, California. LeRoy was born March 13, 1930 in Lawrence, Nebraska. He was the first child of George Henry Gilsdorf and Jeanette Lena L'Heureux Gilsdorf. He graduated from Hastings St. Cecilia HS in 1948 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving honorably for 4 years in the Korean War. After his military service he attended the University of
Nebraska and Hastings College. He married Jennie Joan Hyde on June 11, 1955 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings. The family moved to Merced California in 1957 and LeRoy joined the County of Merced.
LeRoy enjoyed a 31 year career with Merced County retiring in 1989 as the Merced County Auditor/Controller/Recorder and continued working with the Merced County Employees Retirement Association for a total of 50 years of service with Merced County. LeRoy led an honorable life of volunteerism and community service serving on many local and State committees and boards both with professional organizations and with service clubs in the Merced area. LeRoy's greatest joy was serving his church. LeRoy has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for 58 years. He supported his church as a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church Finance Committee, was a board member of Catholic Charities of Merced, and served on the Diocese of Fresno Finance committee. Pope John II bestowed the Benemerenti Medal to him in 1996 for outstanding service to the Catholic Church In addition to his many years of service to his community and church, LeRoy enjoyed multiple hobbies including stamp collecting, coin collecting, restoring his 1928 Ford, gardening, bowling, and card playing. LeRoy was an Arthur Murray trained dancer and wowed everyone with his dance moves. Perhaps his most enjoyable hobby was golf. He was a member of Merced Golf and Country Club for many years. He played golf all over the United States and Europe while traveling with Joan in their retirement years. He was most pleased when he was selected to play The Old Course in Scotland during one of their trips. He played golf well into his 80's. He is remembered as a man of generosity with his time, talent and treasure, a man of fidelity and love for his family and community and a man of kindness. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers, a sister-in-law and a niece. Survivors include his wife Joan, daughters Jane Lopez (Sal) and Gail Basham (Fred Selzer), grandchildren Sarah Basham and Justin LeRoy Basham all of California; and his brother Eugene and wife Betty of North Platte, NE. He leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews who he lovedvery much. In 2017 LeRoy and Joan moved from Merced to The Commons on Thornton in Stockton to be closer to family and have enjoyed an active and full life under the care and guidance of the exceptional staff and care givers. The family would like to thank The Commons on Thornton Connections for Living staff and caregivers, Optimal Hospice and ResCare (Always Caring) for their excellent care of LeRoy during the last few months of his life.

Services: A celebration of life will be held in Lodi on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 2:00PM at the Garden of Freedom in Cherokee Memorial Park, located at Harney Lane at Hwy 99, Lodi, CA 95240. A Rosary and funeral Mass will be held in Merced on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 9:30AM. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 459 W. 21st street, Merced, CA.
