Judith McLane

December 30, 1940 - August 9, 2020

Judith Kay McLane, 79 years of age, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at Hospice House in Stockton on Saturday, August 1, 2020 following a long and heroic battle with diabetes.  With her were her daughters, Jane and Jill Thomas, and her husband, Michael Harmon.  Some 50 years ago when she was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus it was a virtual death sentence, but she courageously refused to let the disease dictate her life and who she was.  She participated in sports, including golf and tennis (a membership at Woodbridge Golf and Country Club), waterskiing, volleyball, swimming at Jack Chappell’s Swimming Club, roller skating and tennis.  She took ballroom dancing from Jesslyn Pearson.  She and Mike were avid Bridge players.

Judy was born in Stockton on December 30, 1940 to Kenneth and Vivian L. (Benton) McLane and was a life-long resident of Lodi.  She attended Emerson School through third grade, Needham School from fourth through eighth grades and Lodi Union High School, from which she graduated in the class of 1958.  She then attended Sacramento State University.  In Needham School she was a member of the 8th grade Glee Club.

She became a dental assistant, working for her father-in-law, Doctor Byron Thomas, DDS and worked as office manager for Dr. Mardini, M.D. for some years.  At one time she was a co-owner of the Lodi Crusher Semi-pro baseball team.  She was active in and worked for many charitable organizations, such as Lodi House, the Marc Club, the Salvation Army and the Lodi Public Library.  She took piano lessons from William Pisani.

On April 16, 1998 Judy and Mike traveled to Kauai, Hawaii and were married by a 7th Day Adventist pastor in a small service at the Fern Grotto.  Being active in the Church included teaching in the better living Chips Program and accompanying Mike on the piano for some of his vocal solos.  Judy and Mike set a challenge for themselves of visiting all fifty United States and every National Park, and they succeeded.

Judy is survived by her husband of 22 years, (Charles) Michael Harmon, two daughters, Jill M. Thomas (Eric), Jane E. Thomas (Levi Huffman), stepson Randy Harmon, step-granddaughter Mia Harmon, step-grandson, Logan Harmon, stepdaughter Lori Harmon and step-granddaughters Taylor and Steffani Harmon.  Judy was preceded in death by her sister Joanne Rantz (Tony).

She was a long time member of the Marc Club, Friends of the Library, LPL Foundation, and English Oaks 7th Day Adventist Church.

Judy and Mike have selected cremation, so there will not be a funeral service.  In lieu of flowers we urge you to make donations to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Lodi House, PAWS, MedicAlert Foundation, the Salvation Army, a worthwhile local charity of your choice or to the Mike and Judy Harmon Charitable Trust care of the Mike and Judy Harmon Donor Advised Fund in care of the Lodi Community Foundation, 955 University Avenue, Suite A, Sacramento, CA 95825.

Norma Statham

December 11, 1931 - August 8, 2020

Born on Dec 11th , 1931 in Paradise, Texas she was the youngest daughter of 8 children, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Norma spent most of her youth in Texas. World War 2 was breaking out and the family moved West to California. This is where Norma finished her youth. As a young woman Norma married, divorced and on her own sent two daughters to Catholic school, bought a home, worked as head clerk of GEM. These were milestones for a woman in that era.

“On Blueberry Hill” Norma met the love of her life, Hoyt Statham. They brought two families together Norma with Jennifer and Cindy. Hoyt with Randy, Mike, and Patti. Norma and Hoyt, both worked at Emby’s Foods and eventually bought out the grocery store and changed the name to Hoyt Foods.

Retired at 50 nothing made her happier than having their family near. Together Norma and Hoyt enjoyed traveling with the Good Sam’s club, fishing, golfing, gambling and playing cards with family and friends. When Hoyt died, she remained a strength and comfort to the family they had built. Norma loved being active. In addition to the things Norma had enjoyed with Hoyt she added to her circle of friends by engaging in other activities, Bunco, Red Hats, Tai Chi and going to plays.

The last remaining years of her life was enhanced by her caregiver Alishia, she was a dear friend and companion. This cannot end without mentioning her love for her doggie bear that though stinky brightened her days. Norma enjoyed staying as active as she could until she fell asleep in death peacefully on 8/8/2020 leaving behind a beautiful legacy of loving memories.

Please leave your condolences below.

Sally Lemke

January 31, 1946 - August 5, 2020

On August 5th we lost our beloved wife, mother, and friend. Our hearts are broken. She was unable to overcome infection acquired in the hospital after heart surgery.

She was a remarkable woman who led an extraordinary life. We will miss her loving heart, sense of humor, and genuine interest in life and the people in it.

After graduation from the University of Wisconsin in 1968, Sally went to work as a systems analyst for the Defense Department in Battle Creek, Michigan. In 1969 she married her husband Bob, who she met in college. He was transferred to San Diego in 1977 and she went to work as a systems trainer at General Dynamics. In 1983 his job took them to Pago Pago, American Samoa where she immersed herself in island culture and life. Their son Jonathan was born in 1985 and a year later they returned to California, settling in Woodbridge.

She was interested and active in education and academics, and served on the School Board of St. Anne's School. She co-directed the science olympiad and academic pentathlon programs and directed the bingo program to raise funds for the school. After her son's graduation from high school she worked as an office manager for San Joaquin County Mental Health in Tracy. She and her husband were married for 51 years and traveled extensively during their careers and after retirement.

We will miss her dearly, but are so grateful we were able to share in her remarkable life. She is survived by her husband; their son, Jonathan; and daughter-in-law, Berit. She will also be missed by her brother,Lee Verheyen and his wife, Mary Lou of San Antonio, Texas; her sister, Sue Allcox of DePere, Wisconsin; her in-laws, Ron and Sue Lemke, Glenn and Yvonne Lemke, and Judi Lemke; many nieces and nephews; and her special friend Susan Shamber.

It was her wish to have her body donated to science and we will do our best to comply. If you would like to remember her, please perform an act of kindness for a child or donate in her name to your favorite educational program.

Please leave your condolences below.

Cherokee Memorial is honored to serve the Lemke family.
