Paul Elmer Nichols, 99, passed away on February 22, 2021. He was born October 21, 1921 in Strathmore, CA, to Arthur Victor and Phebe McClure Nichols, the eldest of three sons. He grew up in Whittier, CA, graduated from Whittier High School in 1939, and attended Fullerton Junior College. Church also brought together Elmer and his second wife, Roberta Jensen. Their 1985 marriage in Lodi was the foundation of a new blended family that gave them both an additional 35 years of wonderful memories. Their love of travel took them all over the country on many memorable car, train and riverboat excursions, frequently stopping to visit family and friends.
Elmer's was a lifetime of volunteering and serving others, always willing to help his family, friends, neighbors, church, community and country. He lovingly supported the various projects and sports in which his sons participated. Christine M. Yarbrough, 73, died on February 21, 2021 with her husband and three sons at her side. She fought a brave battle with cancer, only to eventually pass away of complications from the treatment.
She was born in Hayward, California, to Harry and Worlean Hodgson. Chris was a beautiful Christian woman who always thought of others before herself. She treated everyone as "family" and never met a stranger.
Nine days before her death, she asked her husband to include the following in her obituary:
1) Chris grew up in San Lorenzo, California with her parents and brother Bill. They had fun family vacations to North Carolina, Yosemite, Russian River, and Disneyland. Faith in God was always part of her family.
2) She went to San Lorenzo High School and met the "love of her life", Dave. They started dating at age 16. Chris was a cheerleader/song girl for Dave's basketball team. Following high school, she and Dave went to San Jose State University. They were married in January 1970. In June of 1970 they moved to Southern California for Dave to attend medical school at the University of California, Irvine.
3) During Dave's medical school, Chris worked as a counselor for delinquent juveniles at a 24-hour facility. (There is no doubt she had a positive impact on those children.)
4) In July 1974, Chris and Dave moved to Stockton for Dave's Internal Medicine residency. This was completed in June 1977 and it was decided Stockton would remain their home.
5) Chris and Dave have three sons (Michael, John, and Brian), all of whom are exemplary, loving husbands and fathers. As children they played multiple sports. As a result, Chris often participated in booster clubs and fundraising. When the kids were young, many vacations were sports related.
6) In earlier years, Chris was heavily involved at Quail Lakes Baptist Church, where she continued as a member until her death. At one point she was the women's ministry event coordinator. She was also a part of choir, bible studies, meal ministry, church fundraising, and was "mentor mom" for MOPS. She and Dave were co-chairs with the Hakeem family for the 50th (Jubilee) celebration of the church.
7) Chris saw God bless her family in many ways. Her sons are godly, loving, and caring men. Each of them married wonderful women who Chris and Dave considered their daughters (not in-laws). She has seven natural grandchildren. One of them recently married, so there are now eight grandchildren. Each is unique and have special gifts of their own.
8) There are numerous members of her extended family and also numerous friends who are like family. These individuals know who they are and how much they were loved.
9) Her brother Bill was a wonderful brother who picked up their father's love for sports. Bill and his wife are always so welcoming to everyone. Both are hard workers and family oriented.
10) She wanted everyone to know that she had many favorite Bible verses, but especially Ephesians 2:8-9, Isaiah 40:31, Romans 8:38-39, Philippians 4:13, and John 5:24.
11) Chris wanted to encourage everyone to listen to two of her favorite songs, "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe and "Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)" by Chris Tomlin.
12) She wanted all to know that she was blessed by God as she was able to connect and re-connect with so many people during her illness. She felt an unbelievable amount of support. The love of so many reminded her of the love of Christ. People everywhere around the world were praying for her and that made a big impression on her. She wanted to make sure to thank everyone for their prayers, flowers, food, texts, and gifts during her illness.
13) Chris describes her husband Dave as her soulmate, her loving husband of 51 years, and her steady partner. She recalls 51 years of parties, travels, photographs, and games played at their home.
Chris is survived by her husband Dave; by her sons Michael (Mella), John (Melissa), and Brian (Melba); by her grandchildren Jake (Sami), Shelby, Peyton, Cooper, Lydia, Asher, and Noah; by her brother Bill (Debby); and by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Glen Howard Mortensen died of natural causes on February 19, 2021, at the age of 97. Glen was born on January 6, 1924, in Benson Ward, Utah, and grew up in the farming communities of Logan and Richmond, Utah. After high school, he studied airplane mechanics at Utah State College. During World War II, he served as a corporal in the Eighth Air Force at Royal Air Force Station Watton Air Depot in County Norfolk, England, where he inspected and directed repairs for B-17 bombers returning from missions over Europe. He was discharged at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento.
With help from the G.I. bill, he worked to put himself through college, beginning at Sacramento City College. He studied architecture at the University of California at Berkeley, where he met Stockton native Carolyn Eproson. They married in 1949. After graduating in 1950, Glen worked in the Bay Area as a draftsman. He received his state architect license in a few years, and in 1956, he joined the architectural firm of Mayo, Johnson, and DeWolf in Stockton. In 1962, he and Jack Holstein formed Mortensen and Holstein, Architects. Some years later, he created a firm in his name, Glen H. Mortensen, Architect, A.I.A., and he later partnered with Gary Gideon to form Mortensen and Gideon, Architects.
Glen's designs of local homes, churches, banks, schools, and office buildings helped shape the image of Stockton and communities in the Central Valley and Sierra Foothills. He was the primary architect for the Woodruff Regional Occupational Center, the Hunter's Square Fountain (since replaced by construction of the most recent county courthouse), the School of Pharmacy at the University of the Pacific, and most notably, Burn's Tower, also at U.O.P.
An early proponent of alternative energy, Glen designed the first solar home in Stockton in the 1970s. He presented City Hall with ideas for improving aesthetics and water quality at the head of the Stockton Channel and the Mormon Slough.
Glen belonged to the Sierra Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (A.I.A.) and was a commissioner for the Board of Architectural Examiners. He was active in North Stockton Kiwanis, the Engineer's Club, the Astronomical Society, the Stockton Executive Club, the Solar Energy Society, and the American Legion. He also was affiliated with the Stockton Fine Arts Gallery, the Cultural Heritage Board, and the Save Downtown Stockton Foundation Board.
With a shared love of music, Glen and Carolyn were season ticket holders to the Stockton Symphony as well as to the Stockton Civic Theater. Glen sang for years in the Stockton Chorale and in the Barbershop Harmony (SPEBSQSA) chorus. In addition to singing, he was an avid golfer well into his 80's. A highlight of his golfing days was hitting a hole-in-one at Swenson Golf Course. The family traveled by car throughout California and to National Parks outside the state. After the children were grown, Glen and Carolyn continued to travel to locations such as Alaska, Hawaii, New York, Europe, and Mexico. Glen's hobbies also included woodworking, painting, and baking bread. In his 90s, he took ukulele lessons.
Of great pride was the home he designed in north Stockton and moved his family into in 1962. There he could return to his origins by growing a large garden each year, planting fruit and nut trees, and harvesting the yield. "Farmer Glen" had a strong work and self-sufficiency ethic. He could fix almost anything, it seemed, and he was keenly interested in technology and innovation.
Glen was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he had many responsibilities. He also sang in his ward's choir.
In recent years, Glen resided at O'Connor Woods and Oakmont at Brookside.
Glen was a man of the Greatest Generation. He grew up poor during the Depression, served his country in WWII, and worked hard toward his goals. He had a limitless interest in the wonders of the world and curiosity about how things worked. A dear friend described him this way: "He was a visionary who could see far beyond what is, and made plans for what could be." He was honest and kind and lived by a moral code that never wavered. He was all about the positive and well-being. A gentle, kind soul walked among us for 97 years.
Glen was preceded in death in 2009 by Carolyn, his wife of 60 years. He is survived by children, Dean Mortensen (Diana), Marit Mortensen-Bird (Bart), and Farel Brosio (Paul); grandchildren, Lisa, Eric, Kevin, Mark, and Anya; and three great-grandchildren, Elisabeth, Johnathan, and Melanie.
His family will hold a private burial, with United States Air Force honor guard, at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi. A celebration of Glen's life will be announced at a later date.

April 01, 1950 - February 17, 2021
It is with sadness we announce that Richard "Rick" Fuhrman died unexpectedly on February 17, 2021, but we are comforted in the knowledge that he is with the Lord.
It was on April 1st, 1950 that Melba and Harry Fuhrman's bouncing baby boy was born into this world. And it was an entirely appropriate date for Rick Fuhrman to be born, being April Fool's Day and all. Later the family welcomed younger brother, Craig. Rick was born and raised in Roseville, graduating from Roseville High with the class of 1968. After serving in the National Guard and working for the Citrus Heights Fire District, he began working for PG&E as a ditch digger. After several moves and promotions, he retired as manager of Stockton Gas Field Services, having had a rewarding and eventful 42-year career.
Rick was blessed with two wonderful children, Rhianna and Ryan, and later on he met and married Gail, who had two lovely girls, Charity and Jenna. He was one lucky dude.
He was a player of basketball, a lover of off-roading, canoeing, and fly fishing, and he had a story for every situation (embellished or not). He and Gail enjoyed traveling the country on their Harley, and loved their RV trips to Alaska. If we had three pages, we could recite his story of the encounter with a grizzly bear while he was fly-fishing in Valdez! He also loved woodworking, perfecting his craft over many years, from framing his childhood home with his dad to creating many pieces of fine furniture.
Rick was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Lodi, serving as an usher, an elder, and a mentor of many young people. Some of his fondest memories were from mission trips to Mexico, Africa, and Camp Barnabas. He believed the biggest gift he could give people was his time, as evidenced by his devotion to God and his family.
He is survived by his (incredibly patient) wife, Gail; daughter and son-in-law, Rhianna & Dustin Snyder and their son Caiden of Loomis; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan & Jessyka Fuhrman, and their children Tylynne, Hailey, and Axel, also of Loomis; daughter and son-in-law, Charity & Jesse Ingalls of Red Bluff; daughter and son-in-law, Jenna & Richie Webb, and their children Mackenzie and Kaleb; his brother and sister-in-law, Craig & Melody Fuhrman and their children Crystal and Amy of Roseville; as well as other extended family.
