Nancy Mettler

December 31, 1944 - January 7, 2023

Nancy Sharon (Foster) Mettler was born December 31, 1944 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Amalie (Diener) and Johnie S. Foster.  She went to her Heavenly resting place January 7, 2023.

Nancy lived her early life in numerous places but completed high school in Tucson, Arizona.

After completion of high school, Nancy received a BS Degree in Education at University of Texas El Paso with a minor in mathematics.  She met the love of her life Leeman Eugene Mettler after moving to Stockton California to pursue her career in teaching.  They were married on June 6, 1970.

Nancy taught in Stockton Unified School District until her retirement in January 2011.  During her 40 years as an educator Nancy made a tremendous impact on so many young lives.  After 18 years in the class room she moved into administration.  Her impact in the classroom was remarkable where she earned many apples.  However, her impact as an administrator was beyond extraordinary. Her most proud accomplishment was having the honor of opening Rio Calaveras School in 1998.  Against what many might think were extreme odds her pride and joy Rio Calaveras was recognized as the top-scoring school in Stockton Unified 5 years later.  One of her administrators noted when the school received the award it was a bi-product of Nancy’s competitive spirit.  That same administrator went on to acknowledge beyond being competitive she expected the best from her teachers, her students and herself.  That is how Nancy lived her life.

When she retired she enjoyed travel with friends.  She also was able to spend more time enjoying her favorite sports.  She was an avid golfer and tennis player.  She spent time learning a great deal about grape and cherry harvesting which had been her husband’s business before he passed away.

Nancy was a devout Christian and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lodi.  Through her last years of challenging health she demonstrated her faith in the way she faced many obstacles.  Faith and expecting the best of herself and others was an incredible example for all who knew and loved her.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Leeman Mettler. parents Amalie and Johnie Foster.  Also, her best buddy,  the one she depended on in her early life, her dear brother John L. Foster until his untimely death in 2002.

Nancy is survived by her son Anthony Mettler and his wife Melissa of Tucson, Az., her sister in law Charlene Horn and her husband of Lodi, California.  Many nieces and nephews and many many friends.
