Delmar Dewalt

June 8, 1936 - April 30, 2023

On April 30th 2023 long time Lodi resident Delmar D. Dewalt quietly passed in his home after a short  illness.

Delmar was born on June 8th 1936 in Ashley, North Dakota then moved to San Francisco as a boy. His family eventually relocated to Lodi in 1945 where he enjoyed his youth, attended High School, eventually met and married his loving wife Shirley and together they were blessed with their two children Teresa and Hal.

As a young family Delmar and Shirley provided their children with memories of countless years together camping, boating, fishing and waterskiing together with their extended family and dearest friends.

Delmar later joined the Lodi Police Department Auxiliary. He was very proud of his time and service to the community.

Delmar eventually gained employment at General Mills. He soon acquired a position within the maintenance department until retirement. He was also a member of, and served as an officer of the Grain Miller’s Union Local 59 where he proudly served as part of the negotiations team.

Delmar also joined and became a longtime member of the Lodi Moose Lodge.

Over the years Delmar and Shirley began cruising and enjoyed their ships destinations with friends and family. Also with his natural mechanical ability and long time interest of old cars Delmar began and completed his proud restoration of a 1964 1/2 mustang convertible, 1965 mustang fastback and a 1955 Ford T-bird. He enjoyed the cars and events often bringing home trophies for his talents and hard work. Eventually he decided the time had come to pass them on for another to enjoy.

After the passing of his wife he eventually met Mary Simpson, they established a wonderful relationship and had great times together.

Up into and through his last days even from his hospice bed, when asked how he was doing he would slowly make the “ok” gesture with his hand and say “just wonderful”, “life is good“.

Delmar is preceded in death buy his parents Wilbur and Viola, wife Shirley and his brother Kenny. He leaves behind his children Hal (Teresa Dewalt) and Teresa (Charles Lake), Grandchildren Haley, Thomas, Tracy and Scott as well as eight great grandchildren. RIP.

Please leave your condolences below.

He grew up and attended elementary school in Skokie , Illinois; later moving to Glenview, Illinois, where he was graduated from high school. His undergraduate work was at Parsons College in Iowa, where he had a triple major in business, accounting, and history. He was also a percussionist in the college band. They were married in South  Pasadena , California  and then moved to Evanston, Illinois. Two years later they relocated to Stockton, California where they both perused graduate degrees at the University of the Pacific. ( This resulted in Bill’s favorite pun, “ We are a pair of docs.” ). His interests included photography, computers, and model trains. He relished his role as Uncle and Godfather to  numerous nieces and nephews.
