August 10, 1942 - September 13, 2023
Richard W. Hieb passed away on September 13, 2023. He was born on August 10, 1942, in Lodi, CA to parents Herbert and Martha Hieb.
Richard graduated from Lodi High School in 1960, where he played basketball and baseball. He earned a Life Pass to Lodi High School sporting events by playing on three championship basketball teams and was a big fan of Lodi High Sports. He attended Stockton College (now San Joaquin Delta) where he continued to play basketball and graduated in 1962 with an Associate of Arts degree in engineering technology.
Richard began work as an Engineering Aide I for the San Joaquin County Public Works Department in 1962 and retired as an Engineering Assistant III in 2000.
Richard’s fifteen minutes of fame came in 1960 when he carried the Olympic Torch as part of the Torch Relay to Squaw Valley’s Winter Olympics.
Richard enjoyed the outdoors hunting ducks and pheasants, fishing for bass and trout and bird watching.
He was a member of the San Joaquin Audubon Society and was Treasurer of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. He was also an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board and served as an usher for many years. Richard could be recognized around town by his trademark red Lodi High baseball cap.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents in 1974. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria and his two sons, Darin of Folsom and Eric of Lodi. He has a brother, Dr. Kenneth Hieb of Fresno and a sister, Beverly Vogt of Cottage Grove, Oregon. Richard was the great- grandson of Wilhelm Hieb, who was the first German from Russia to migrate to Lodi.
At the family’s request, services will be private.

Elvia Nava was born June 29,1946 to Manuel and Maria Rodriguez. She passed away unexpectedly September 10,2023. She was born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico and came to Lodi area at the age of 7 years old. She was the eldest of three siblings; Americo, Javier and Ruben Rodriguez. She then became a devoted mother to four children, Norma Flores, Cesar Flores, Elizabeth Nava and Iselda Nava. Elvia was a hard loyal employee of Big Lots for 25+ years and enjoyed working until her last day. She enjoyed dancing with friends every weekend and planned to dance until the end because it made her happy. She was also a loving grandmother to six grandchildren; Steven Garza, Gabriel Nava, Desiree Nava, Celeste McCoy, Isaac McCoy,and Angel Zuniga. She was a good beautiful person and will forever be remembered, loved and missed by all who knew her.

Ben Gust Ring passed away on September 8th, 2023 following a short illness. He was born in Sykeston, North Dakota on February 10th, 1930 to Gust and Lydia Ring. Ben was number 6 in the family of 9 children. The Ring family moved from North Dakota to Lodi in 1940 when Ben was 10 years old. As a child he attended Henderson School and graduated from Lodi High School in 1948.
After high school, Ben was a member of the California National Guard with which he served 10 years. Also at this time he attended trade school for Sheet Metal construction.
Ben was a lifelong fisherman and loved to fish the waters of the Delta, Lake Tahoe, and Lake Topaz. His favorite vacation spots included Lake Tahoe and Reno. His favorite sports teams were the SF Giants and the SF 49ers.
Ben is survived by his son Ron Ring (Debbie) of Stockton, daughter Melissa Bogges (Walter) of Gresham, Oregon, grandsons Brandon Ring and Aaron Ring (Katie) both of Stockton, great-grand daughter Ellie Ring great-Grand son Carson Gardner, both of Stockton, sisters Vivian Rostomily and Darlene MacDonald, both of Lodi.
Ben was preceded in death by his wife Lilly Ring, his parents, sisters Vera Duggan, Dorothy Guianen, Eva Santos, Betty Lee, brothers Edwin RIng, and Raymond Ring.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 19th, at 10:00am at Cherokee Memorial Park. A visitation will be held in the Merlot Room at Cherokee Memorial Park on Monday, September 18th, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, 105 S. Washington Street, Lodi, CA or the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Our loving father and life time companion has gone home to heaven way to soon at the age of 60. Stanley AKA dad, pa, you're man Stan, dedicated 30 years to Bear Creek winery as a maintenance supervisor. Took pride in everything he did! And took even bigger pride in his family! Stanley was an avid bass fisherman and duck hunter always loved being outdoors. He leaves behind 4 kids and the love of his life that loved him unconditionally. 2 son's. 2 daughter's and an unborn grandson.
You'll always be missed Stan the Man.
