Glen Valente

January 19, 1950 - May 2, 2024

Glen was born January 19, 1950 in Lodi. He passed away peacefully in his home, in Stockton, on May 2, 2024 at the age of 74.

Glen is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Rosie, daughter Janeen Loewen, son in law, Josh and his beloved grandsons, Roland and Spencer. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Glen was preceded in death by his son, Greg, parents, and siblings.

Glen retired from California Water service in 2010 after working there for 40 years. Since retirement, Glen and Rosie have enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his boy, Chico. Glen loved spending time camping, going to the beach, and going to their place at Calaveras Timber Trails. Glen enjoyed sharing his love of food with family and friends through posts on social media.

Funeral services will be held on Monday May 13, 2024 at 10:00AM at Cherokee Memorial Park’s
Vineyard Chapel. Reception to follow at the Stockton Ballroom, located at 9650 Thornton Rd, Stockton, CA 95209.

William Van Tassel Jr.

December 27, 1930 - May 2, 2024

William Earl Van Tassel Jr., age 93 of Linden, CA, passed away on May 2, 2024. William (Bill) was born in Woodland, CA on December 27th, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents Atha and William Van Tassel Sr. and sister Virginia Hammond.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Marilyn, daughters, Nancy (Rick) Lopez, Carol (George) Alves and sons, William (Vicki) Van Tassel, Robert Van Tassel and Jim (Kim) Van Tassel. Eight Grandchildren - Nathan & Brett Lopez, Dustin Alves, Lindsay (Alves) Gogna, Jillian (Van Tassel) Carnes, Luke Van Tassel, Ellie Van Tassel, & Ezra Van Tassel. As well as Thirteen Great-grandchildren.

Bill attended College in Susanville where he studied to be a gunsmith. After college, he joined the US Navy and flew fighter planes off the USS Oriskany with the Fighter Squadron 122 during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1967 from the Navy Reserve with Four Air Medals: China Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, and National Defense Medal. After serving active duty in the Navy, Bill became a commercial airline pilot for United Airlines and flew from 1955 to 1988.

In 1972, Bill decided to pursue his lifelong dream of being a cattleman and moved his family to a ranch in Linden, CA, where he continued to fly and grow his cow-calf operation. In 1991, he received the CBCIA Commercial Producer of the year award from the California Cattlemen’s Association.

Betty Kelso

July 26, 1930 - May 1, 2024

Betty Lou Kelso, nee Betty Lou King, passed away on May 1, 2024, at the age of 93 in Lodi, California. She was born on July 26, 1930, in Northview Missouri. Betty was a loving, strong-willed, welcoming, and generous individual with a great sense of humor.

Betty was raised on a farm in Northview. After her family home burned down while she was in high school, she and her family moved to California. The family eventually settled in Turlock where she met her future husband, Robert A. Kelso. After they were married, they moved to San Francisco. Moving to ever larger homes as the family grew, they eventually bought a home in the Sunset district. After sons Bob and Mike went off to college the family moved to Stockton where Betty would live for the next 53 years. Robert passed away in 1992.

Betty enjoyed family get togethers which were always lively events often with 35 or more family members attending. One of her favorite places was Lake Tahoe where she enjoyed visiting in the summer around her birthday. She enjoyed reading and word puzzles. She was an avid fan of the soap opera, General Hospital, and a loyal fan of the San Francisco Giants Baseball team.

Betty raised five boys and later worked at Campbell’s Department Store in Stockton. She will be dearly missed by: Robert D. (Bob) Kelso (son), Marcy Wheeler (daughter-in-law), Michael (Mike) Kelso (son), Nancy Kelso (daughter-in-law), Kevin Kelso (son), Linda Kelso (daughter-in-law), Kim Kelso (son), Monique Kelso (daughter-in-law), Craig Kelso (son), Kathy Kelso (daughter-in-law). She was very proud of her grandchildren - Logan Kelso, Megan Kelso, Chris Kelso, Steven Kelso, Brenton Kelso, Elizabeth Kelso, Katelyn Galvin, Emily Kelso, Cameron Kelso, Jennifer Baker, Amy Cosens, Lindsay Tax; and great grandchildren-Jude Kelso, Henrik Kelso, Kailyn Kelso, Riley Baker, Brody Baker, Norah Baker, Regan Galvin, Jack Galvin, Presley Cosens, Onyx Wade and Serenity Wade. She is also survived by her siblings Bill King, Bob King, Jim King, J.D. King, and Ellen (Bonnelle) Adcock.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother Fleeta King, father Charles (Poppy) King, husband Robert A. Kelso, siblings Paul King and Minnie Adcock, and grandson Steven Kelso.

Services will be held at Cherokee Memorial Park, 14165 Beckman Rd, Lodi, CA 95240 at 1 PM on May 17th 2024. Contributions in Betty’s memory can be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Sue Ann Hollingshead Hattan
February 4,1945 - April 30,2024

Sue Ann Hattan passed away April 30,2024 in San Andreas, CA. Sue was born in Cheyenne, CO to Raymond Charles and Gladys Lucille”Stutts”Hollingshead.

Sue loved the San Francisco Giants and always knew when they were playing on TV. She always had a project in progress with her woodworking, sewing, crocheting or knitting.

Sue leaves behind a large family that she cherished.

In 1965 Sue married Weldon Eugene Hattan Jr(Gene) in Cheyenne Wells, CO. They soon moved to Stockton,CA where they raised two sons.

Sue is preceded in death by her husband Gene Hattan and parents Raymond “Sandy” and Gladys Hollingshead.

She is survived by her sons, Don (Jami) Hattan, CJ (Dina) Hattan. 9 grandchildren: Tyler, Logan, Alysandra, Chloe, Michael, Raymond,Marissa,Vincent and Charles Jr. 5 great grandchildren: Gage, Delilah, Melody, Jaden and Noah and her beloved dog Maggie. She will be remembered by her love of cats having many over the years. She was a collector of all things cats, even having an all cat Christmas tree.

Jose Guadalupe Pantoja
December 6, 1945 - April 28, 2024


Jose Guadalupe Pantoja, age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Jose was born on December 6, 1945, and spent his life dedicated to his family and his work.

Jose is survived by his beloved wife, Yolanda Pantoja. Together, they shared 54 years of marriage, filled with mutual love and respect. He was also a loving father to four children: Julio, Sylvia, Jr and David Pantoja, and a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.

For over 20 years, Jose worked as a machinist at Valley Industries, where he was respected for his skill and dedication. His hard work and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Jose enjoyed soccer, gardening, and boxing, passions that he shared with his friends and family. His hobbies brought joy not only to him but also to those around him.

Jose’s family will forever remember his warmth, humor, and the love he shared with them. He was a pillar of strength for his family.

Ray Davenport

May 1, 1944 - April 27, 2024

Ray Davenport, Juris Doctorate, born in 1944, ascended to Heaven on April 26, 2024, in Lodi, California, leaving behind a legacy of service, leadership, and love. Ray’s life was a tapestry of roles and accomplishments, reflecting his deep commitment to his family, public service, and faith as a Christian man.

Ray served with distinction as a Battalion Chief for the City of Lodi Fire Department, bringing courage and compassion to his role in protecting and serving others. His dedication extended to public service as a City Council member for the City of Lodi where he worked tirelessly to enhance the lives of his fellow citizens. Ray’s commitment to education was evident in his role as a School Board member, advocating for quality education and opportunities for all students.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Ray was a private pilot, adding another dimension to his adventurous spirit. He was also a skilled farmer, rancher, and builder, embodying the values of hard work, perseverance, and craftsmanship. His contributions to agriculture were significant, leaving a lasting impact.

Ray was the loving husband of Jeanie for 42 years, their bond a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a family rooted in love, respect, and unity. Ray is survived by his three children: Gregory Davenport, Randy Davenport, and Andrea Adams, who carry forward his legacy of integrity and kindness. He is also survived by his son-in-law Wade Adams, daughters-in-law Monica Davenport and Margherita Davenport, brother Russell Davenport, sister-in-law Dianna Davenport, and niece Sherry Davenport.

Ray’s role as a grandfather was cherished, and he took great joy in the lives of his seven grandchildren: Sydney Davenport, Geoffrey Davenport, married to Hannah, Adrianna, Adams, Tyler Davenport married to Cole Norgaard, Austin Adams, Nicole Davenport, and Gracie Davenport. His wisdom, laughter, and unwavering support enriched their lives and will continue to inspire future generations.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, Ray leaves behind a great-grandchild, Logan, who will grow up hearing stories of his great-grandfather’s remarkable life and the values he held dear.

Ray Davenport’s legacy of service, dedication, and love will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. His kindness, strength, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a guiding light for all who were fortunate to know him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and the countless lives he touched.

Ray will be laid to rest in Cherokee Memorial Park May 20, 2024 at 11:00am.

Donald Barry

September 29, 1933 - April 26, 2024

Donald Keith Barry, son of Lewis T. Barry and Dorothy L. Barry, was born Sept 29, 1933 in Denver, Colorado and passed away on April 26th. Donald or “Don” was the oldest of 2 children.

Don graduated from Colorado State University, was a pilot in the US Navy, moved to the Bay area where he met his beautiful wife, Shirley. They were married in 1961 and moved to Stockton where they made that their home for 63 years. He and his wife, Shirley, had 3 children; Diane, Michael and Sandra.

He managed Hydraulic Controls for nearly 30 years and was an instructor of Hydraulics at Delta College for 10 years. Don was active in the community; he coached little league, was a board member for Stockton Swim Club, ushered at Lincoln Presbyterian Church, was a member of Rotary, becoming President. Don participated in Toastmasters, Engineers Club, Grandparents Club and Power Squadron.

Don, or “Pa” as his grandchildren called him, was a family man. He enjoyed spending time boating, skiing, kayaking, camping and fishing. He spent many hours on the Delta, hiking in Yosemite, Skiing in Tahoe and vacationing in Hawaii or Santa Cruz. He was always available to have fun! You could count on Pa to be there.

Don was preceded by his wife Shirley and is survived by his sister Ruth Snyder, children Diane and Kelly Gallagher, Michael and Michelle Barry, Sandra and Ronnie Potter. He had 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
