Edward “Ed” Degenstein

January 23, 1930 - April 16, 2025

Edward “Ed” Degenstein passed away on April 16th,2025 peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 95. Edward and his loving wife Marge of 63 years are now reunited in Heaven.

Born January 23rd , 1930, to Peter and Margaret Degenstein in Drake, North Dakota, where he grew up on the family farm with his seven brothers and sisters. In 1951, Ed joined the United States Army from 1951-1953. After coming back home, Ed married the love of his life, Marge in 1954 in North Dakota and started their journey together before moving to Fremont, California in 1959 where they planted their roots and soon started their family. Ed started his career at General Motors and then retired from New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI) in Fremont. During his time in Fremont, Ed was actively involved in his children’s activities as a board member and coach for baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball where he made a lasting impression with his kind soul and loving demeanor that impacted all those he met.

Ed and Marge moved to Lodi, CA in 1993 where they spent their golden years travelling and establishing themselves at St Anne’s church. Ed was actively involved with the UAW retiree’s and Knights of Columbus.

Ed was preceded in death in 2017 by his wife Marge. Ed is survived by his son Greg and his wife Keli, their children Tommy, Drake, Shane, Gage, Meagan, Haley, his daughter Lori Gerick, her children Mikayla, Brenton, and Samuel. Ed also has 3 Great Grandchildren.

Edward is now reunited with his siblings Leonard, Walter, Benny, Raymond, Julia, Betty & Kate.

In lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations to Adventist Health Hospice Care who provided impeccable service and care during his final days.

SERVICES
A celebration of life with a catholic mass will be held on April 29th,2025 at 10:00am at St Anne’s church in Lodi, CA. A special viewing will be held for friends and family on April 28th, 2025, from 5:00pm to 7:30pm at Cherokee Memorial, located at 14165 Beckman Rd in Lodi, Ca 95240. A rosary will be held at 6:00pm on April 28th.

Donald L. Hartill

Donald L. Hartill
March 25, 1939 - April 16, 2025
Ithaca, NY

Donald L. Hartill, 86, of Ithaca, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Born in Chewelah, WA, on March 25, 1939, he was the oldest son of the late Julian and Florence (Bakie) Hartill.

Don completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1961, then went on to earn his Ph.D. in Physics from California Institute of Technology in 1967. He met his wife to be, Marian Lockhart, at a Never on Friday Dance at the Disney Land Hotel in Anaheim, CA, and they were married four months later in Alhambra, CA, on July 30, 1966. They spent one and one-half years in Geneva, Switzerland, where Don was a postdoctoral fellow at CERN. They moved to Ithaca in September of 1968 where Don had been appointed as Assistant Professor of Physics at Cornell University. Don spent his entire career at Cornell, becoming an Associate Professor of Physics in 1974 and Professor of Physics from 1980 until his retirement in 2016. He also served as chair of the physics department. His research was primarily focused on accelerator physics. Visiting appointments throughout his career included: Stanford Linear Accelerator Center; Osservatoria Astrofisico di Arcetri, Florence, Italy; and SSC Central Design Group, LBL. Don was the Alfred P. Sloan Fellow from 1971-74 and Fellow of the American Physical Society and American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Don and Marian enjoyed traveling together. They spent a year in Palo Alto, CA, in 1975, and a year in Florence, Italy, in 1981-1982. In addition to many trips to the West Coast, they returned to Switzerland and Italy several times. In November of 2013, they went on safari in the Kruger National Park and spent a week in Cape Town, South Africa. Don also enjoyed a couple trips to Antarctica in affiliation with the National Science Foundation.

In addition to his teaching and research, Don devoted much of his time to local government at the Village of Lansing. He was a trustee from 1989-1993 and deputy mayor from 1993-1996 before becoming the village’s fifth and longest serving mayor, a position he held from 1996-2021.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, on February 25, 2018. He is survived by his brother Gerald Hartill (Margaret), sister Bernice Keadle, and Bernice’s children, Randy (Shauna) Keadle and Ronda (Giles) Durano; Marian’s sister, Mary Nahas and her two children, Caesar (Barbara) and Fred; Caesar’s three children Connor, Patrick, and Trevor; Fred’s son Jonathan; and the children of Marian’s deceased brother Charles Lockhart, Patti (Mike) Zeis and Charlene (Jim) Bolta; Charlene’s two children Brieana and Jesse. Children of several close friends are also his “adopted” nieces and nephews, Paul Wilkinson (Jeanne) and family, Paul Gregory (Donna) and family, Emma Gregory, Calvin Thompson (Ionna) and family, Giulia Pacini (Andrea Quilici) and family, Adele O’Rourke (Tim Cumming), and Lakelynn Dake.

SERVICES:
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on May 29, 2025 at the Cherokee Memorial Vineyard Chapel followed by interment in Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, CA. A memorial celebration in Ithaca will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at RaNic Golf Club, 189 Pleasant Grove Road, Ithaca, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Jessica Emergency Fund that was set up by Marian for the emergency care of small animals whose owners were unable to pay immediately at the Companion Animal Hospital at Cornell. Lois Ferrero

December 16, 1945 - April 14, 2025

Lois Marie Ferrero’s beautiful soul left this Earth on Monday April 14, 2025 after 79 wonderful years of life.

She was born Lois Marie Klemish on December 16, 1945 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. At the age of 5, her family moved to San Mateo CA, where she was raised.

Lois lived her life exactly as she wanted—full of beauty, humor, love, and devotion to her family. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Billie and Bob Klemish, and her brother Jerry Klemish.

Lois was loved by all for her bright personality, kindness, witty humor, and most of all, her warm and unconditional love. She cared deeply for her family and was a loving and dedicated Mom, Grandma, and Gabba. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with the people she loved and was cherished by those lucky enough to know her.

Beauty was her business. She began her career as a beautician at the age of 18 and spent 53 years doing exactly what she loved, until she retired in 2016. She was the proud owner of The Hair Mill & Co. in downtown Woodbridge for over 20 years. She treasured her days surrounded by her friends and clients who returned year after year, not only for their hair, but for her company. She put her heart and soul into her business and created an environment of warmth and laughter.

The most important thing to Lois was her children and her family. She is survived by her loving children, Shannon Meredith (husband Dennis), Danny Davis (wife Denise), and Robert Lemmons; her grandchildren, Tatin (wife Rienna), Zoe, Daphne, and Drew; her great-grandchildren, Zoey, Tatin, and Teagan; her brother David Klemish.

As a Mom, Lois offered constant, unconditional, and unwavering love and support. She was always there with a listening ear, a piece of advice, or simply a comforting presence when it was needed most. She took great pride in her children and the families and lives they built, never failing to let them know just how proud she was of them.

As a Grandma, she made sure her grandchildren were always happy, full of sugar, and surrounded by love. She loved watching them grow and reach milestones, always offering support whenever they needed it. They will forever treasure memories of beach trips, sleepovers, chocolate cake for breakfast, and the soft, soothing hug that always made things better.

As Gabba, Lois found great joy in the laughter of her great-grandchildren, cherishing the sound of them running into her home and calling out for her. She spent countless hours watching them play on the backyard playground, listening to their songs, and painting by their side.

Lois spoke often and fondly of her brother, David, and loved him deeply. Their bond was unique and lifelong, and she held him in a special place in her heart. She also had a soul sister, her very best and lifelong friend, Dinah Roitz.

Lois will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who take comfort in knowing she is now watching over them with the same love and warmth she gave so freely in life.

We will miss you, Ma, Grandma, Gabba, LoLo. We know that you loved us like we love you.

SERVICE
A graveside service will be held in the Garden of Gospels, at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, CA on Friday, May 9th at 1 pm. Private burial to follow.

Lawrence Daniel

Lawrence Steven Daniel
May 25, 1939 – April 12, 2025

Lawrence Steven Daniel, 85, of Walnut Grove, California, passed away on April 12, 2025. Born on May 25, 1939, in Beedeville, Arkansas, Lawrence lived a life marked by faith, family, service, and a deep love for classic country music.

In 1958, Lawrence married his childhood sweetheart, Lois Roper, and they shared a devoted partnership until her passing in 2019. Together, they raised two sons, Steven and Brian, the latter of whom preceded Lawrence in death in 1999. Lawrence’s family grew to include his beloved daughter-in-law, Barbra Daniel, and four grandchildren—Elliott, Rowen, Sophie, and Marlow Daniel—who brought him immense joy.

Drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in 1962, Lawrence served honorably as a cryptographer, stationed in Verona, Italy. Upon the birth of his son Steven, he was transferred to Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, California, where he completed his service until his honorable discharge in 1965. After his military service, Lawrence embarked on a distinguished 50-year career in banking. He rose from humble beginnings to become President and CEO of Bank of Alex Brown in Walnut Grove, later holding Senior Vice President roles at Imperial Bank and Comerica Bank.

A passionate musician, Lawrence was a talented singer and guitarist with a deep love for classic country music. He co-founded the band Country Tradition, performing alongside family and friends, sharing his gift for music with his community. His Christian faith guided his life, particularly in retirement, when he dedicated himself to serving others. Lawrence volunteered with the Union Gospel Mission in Sacramento and, through his privately funded ministry, provided food and clothing directly to the homeless in Sacramento and San Joaquin Counties.

Lawrence is survived by his son Steven Daniel, daughter-in-law Barbra, grandchildren Elliott, Rowen, Sophie, and Marlow, sister Mary Breckenridge, brothers Allen and Charles Daniel and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, and son, Brian.

A man of integrity, generosity, and unwavering faith, Lawrence’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched through his service and kindness.

SERVICE
A memorial service will be held at Harvest Bible Church in Stockton, CA on May 2 at 9:00 AM followed immediately by a graveside service at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi, CA at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Gospel Mission in Sacramento in Lawrence’s memory.

Gerald Harrison Sr.

June 25, 1938 - April 12, 2025

Gerald D. Harrison Sr. passed away peacefully on April 12th, 2025 at his home in South Lake Tahoe with his family by his side.  

Gerald (Jerry as he was known) was born June 25, 1938 in Watsonville California to his parents Howard and Emma Harrison. 

 At the age of 17 he started his career as a Barber working with his father for over 17 years. In 1971 Gerald joined the Alameda County Sheriff's Department where he worked until 1995 when he retired.

Gerald loved vacationing with his family and friends at Woodward Reservoir, fishing, water skiing, he also loved gardening mostly planting his tomato plants. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed working with his hands.

Gerald was married to Dorothy Harrison for 41 1/2 years until her passing in 1997. Gerald remarried his current wife Paula in 1999.

Gerald is survived by his sister Shirley Pallazzo, children, Loretta Adema, Lorella Lee, Lynetta Harrison, and Jerry  Harrison Jr. and their spouses. Gerald had 7 Grandchildren, Phil, Jennifer, Andy, Ronnie, Josh, JR and Erica.  11 great-Grandchildren and 3 great-great-Grandchildren. 

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Howard Jr., Thelma and Eleanor.
