David Holland

April 13, 1955 - August 14, 2025

David “Skeeter” Holland, beloved Husband, Father, Papa, Marine, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Clements, California, on August 14, 2025, at the age of 70. He was surrounded by his loving family and his faithful dog.

Born April 13, 1955, in Sacramento, California, David grew up in Stockton, where his strong values of family and hard work began to shape his life. In 1973, at the age of 17, David proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed boot camp at Camp Pendleton before being stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and later serving at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, until 1977.

While home on leave from Japan, David met the love of his life, Shirley. Their connection was immediate, and while stationed at Camp Lejeune, they married on March 16, 1975. The following year, in August 1976, they welcomed their daughter, Clarissa. After completing his military service in 1977, David and Shirley returned to Stockton, California, where they made their home and, in August 1978, welcomed their son, Kenneth.

First and foremost, David was a Marine—he carried that title with pride throughout his life. His love for his country was unwavering. Alongside his service, he pursued passions that defined him: racing flat track motorcycles, fishing, and camping. Weekends were often spent at local tracks like the Lodi Cycle Bowl, where David built lifelong friendships and made memories with his family cheering him on. He loved fishing, whether with family or friends, out on the boat sharing stories and laughter. Camping was another passion, giving him time in the outdoors with loved ones and countless memories around campfires, trail rides, and nights under the stars.

Above all else, David’s greatest joy was his family. He was endlessly proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he never missed a chance to share that pride with others. His love, strength, and loyalty will be remembered and carried on by all who knew him.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Shirley Holland; his daughter, Clarissa (Shawn); his son, Kenneth (Sarah); his grandchildren, Kyle (Abby), Tyler, Kenny, Emily, and Charlotte; and his great-granddaughters, Selah and Ellery. He is also survived by his siblings, Bill Holland, Donna Clinton, Sandy Hoyopatubbi, John Holland (Julie), Joanne Griffeath (Tim), and Nancy Yordy (Alan), along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Delores Holland.

Richard Berger

In Loving Memory of Richard James Berger
February 29, 1948 – August 7, 2025

Richard James Berger, 77, of Stockton, California, passed away peacefully at his home on August 7, 2025. Born on February 29, 1948, in San Francisco, California, Rick was the beloved son of Franklin and Jean Berger, who preceded him in death.

Rick grew up with a strong sense of loyalty, integrity, and service—values that would guide him throughout his life. In 1973, he began what would become a nearly three- decade career with the Stockton Fire Department. Through dedication, skill, and leadership, he rose through the ranks to become Deputy Fire Chief, retiring in 2002. Rick was deeply respected by his colleagues for his calm under pressure, his commitment to protecting others, and his willingness to mentor younger firefighters. His legacy in the fire service is one of honor, courage, and selflessness.

While Rick’s professional achievements were many, his greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He shared his life with his loving wife, Crystal Berger. He was a proud and loving father to his children, Michelle Watkins, Melissa Fogg, Matthew Berger, Kiersten Hawbaker, and Joanna Snow; and a humorous G-Pa to his 11 grandchildren. Rick also shared a close bond with his sister, Dori Jones and her husband, Greg.

Rick appreciated life’s quieter moments. He loved spending time at home, finding peace and joy in the serenity of his beautiful backyard with his wife, Crystal and their adorable Golden Retriever, Nala.

Those who knew Rick will remember his warm smile, steady character, and witty sense of humor. He was a man who led by example—valuing honesty, hard work, and compassion above all else. His life was a testament to the power of service, love, and living with purpose.
