Eva Borja

January 27, 1944 - June 1, 2025

Eva Cuerquiz Borja was born on January 27, 1944, in Talakag, Bukidnon, during the Japanese invasion of the Philippines. Her name, "Eva," was lovingly inspired by the word "evacuate", reflecting the challenging times of her birth. She graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Education at the Bukidnon State College in Malaybalay Bukidnon and began her teaching career at San Antonio Elementary School. In 1980, driven by her desire to provide a better future for her family, she moved to Cagayan de Oro City and continued her passion for teaching at West City Central School. Known for her strict but an excellent teacher, Eva was especially respected as an English and Social Studies teacher who left a lasting impression on her students. In 1994, Eva migrated to the United States, where she worked for ten years as a TSA officer at San Jose Mineta Airport. Eva was a devoted Catholic. She was the beloved wife of Benjamin C. Borja, with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage. Eva is survived by her seven children: Genevieve, Cecil, Imelda, Emmanuel, Darlene, Ulysses, Mary Ann, twenty-seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her legacy of generosity, strength, and perseverance will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
