Marie Shane

Marie Catherine Baden Russell Shane
1926 - 2025

Marie Catherine Baden Russell Shane passed away during the evening of September 16th, 2025 at the glorious age of 99. Her life was full of love, devotion, family, friendship, adventures, and generosity.

Marie was born in January 1926 to William and Esther in New York and grew up in the heart of Hollywood. In college, she played basketball and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry. During her youth, her family summered in Lake Tahoe where, in 1945, she fell in love with her first husband, Jack, and they later married in 1946. Marie and Jack worked side by side to build their farm and raise their seven children, until Jack’s untimely passing. Marie later married her coworker Anthony in 1971. With love and openness, she welcomed Anthony’s five children into her heart and family. When retirement approached, Marie and Anthony bought land in Auburn, CA to have a warmer climate. They later established a life in Stockton, CA where they surrounded their home with beauty from exotic flowers to an orchard of citrus trees.

Widowed again in 2002, Marie remained a woman of remarkable strength and vitality. She swam and rode her stationary bike daily, often twice a day. Marie was devoted to her Catholic faith as a parishioner of the Cathedral of the Annunciation. She dedicated countless hours volunteering in her community, most notably at the St. Joseph’s hospital gift shop, and in 2013 was honored with the The Bishop’s Award for a Lifetime of Service. Marie was part of the cherished group fondly known as the “Holy Donut Ladies,” who faithfully attended daily Mass at Saint Mary’s High School Chapel. Her community ties were central to her life, and she left a lasting impression on everyone she met through her kindness, positivity, love, and generosity. Proud of her large family, Marie took joy in the lives of her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives, cherishing the love they gave and the love she returned.

In her later years she became a Resident at O’Conner Woods where she enjoyed walks around the wondrous Oak Trees, pointing out Squirrels, sitting with the Koi Fish and observing the Turtles. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to staff and loving caregivers who loved her infectious smile. She joins her family in Heaven and leaves with us her favorite saying: “I just prayed everyone would just get along together.”
