OBITUARY

(Patricia) Joann “Honey” Loyd Brant, 92, of Pleasant Hill, California, passed away at her home on February 25, 2026.

Joann was born on New Year’s Day, 1934, in Elkton, Oregon, to Floyd and Lucille McMichael. She was a homemaker until she was left to raise her two daughters on her own. She went back to school, then became a secretary and bookkeeper. She kept up with her shorthand until just a few years ago. She was always active in her church (including being a church secretary). She loved music, sang in the church choir, and played the piano. Her lemon meringue pies were requested for every pot luck. She enjoyed square dancing, and won awards in bowling. After retiring, she was a traveling notary and was active in Kiwanis. She never knew a stranger; she would talk with anyone, flashing her beautiful smile.

When her first grandchild was born, Joann wanted to be called something other than “Grandma”. She was in the grocery store and saw a young boy with his grandmother. Honey asked if that was his grandmother, and he said “No! That’s my Honey!” She decided that’s what she wanted to be called.

Honey is survived by her siblings, Jim McMichael, Harry (Kathy) McMichael and Sheila Kraack; children, Katherine Loyd and Merry (John) Morgan; her grandchildren, Jeremy Butterfield, Bryan (Yukari) Butterfield, and Daniel (Sarah) Pearson, and great grandchildren, Rhone, Brandon and Lilly Pearson, Silvio and Koh Butterfield. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim Brant; parents; siblings Verl McMichael, Thelma and William Wolford, and Henry McMichael.

Cherokee Memorial is honored to serve the Brant family.
