Doris Shates

Doris Lila Shates passed away at home on May 5, 2019 at the age of 92. She was born in Elgin, North Dakota on June 20, 1926 to Elizabeth Meintzer Strohmaier and John Strohmaier. Doris was the fourth of seven children. Her parents were German immigrants from Russia who came to homestead on a farm in North Dakota. Hurt by the depression and the drought of the Dust Bowl, the family sold the farm and moved to Lodi when Doris was eight. She attended Needham School and Lodi High School.
Doris moved to Richmond in 1944 where she met the love of her life, Raymond Lewis Shates. After a six-week courtship, they married in Reno, NV. They were married for 73 years until his death in 2018. Doris and Ray lived for many years with Ray's widowed mother and helped raise his two younger brothers. They started their own family in 1960 eventually adopting four children. Before adopting their first child, Doris was a beautician and owned a beauty shop in Berkeley. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed cross stitching, quilting, and scrapbooking. She was also an avid reader and, at the time of her passing, was waiting for the latest Danielle Steel book from Amazon. She enjoyed adult coloring books and enormous jigsaw puzzles. Doris was always busy. Doris had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great listener. Her greatest role was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was affectionately known as "Nana" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Doris is survived by her brother John Strohmaier, son Dan Shates (Cari), daughters Heidi Yurong (Rocky) and Amy Shates, grandchildren Heather Shates, Scott Shates, Nicole Duval Nottingham (Troy) and Grant Duval (Shannon) and six great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Ray, son Scott Shates, sisters Esther Mueller, Martha Gaub and Edna Simmons and brothers Victor and Ervin Strohmaier.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Saturday, May 11th , 2019, from 12-8 pm and service on Monday, May 13th, 2019, at 1:00 pm both at the Cherokee Memorial Park Vineyard Chapel, 14165 N. Beckman Rd in Lodi.

Visitation
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2019 from 12:00p.m. to 8:00p.m at the Vineyard Chapel in Cherokee Memorial Park, located at 14165 N. Beckman Road, Lodi CA, 95240.

Service
A service will be held on Monday, May 13th, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Vineyard Chapel in Cherokee Memorial Park, located at 14165 N. Beckman Road, Lodi CA, 95240 and will conclude at the Sierra View Mausoleum in Cherokee Memorial Park, located off of Highway 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi CA, 95240.

George Sweat

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of George Roy Sweat Jr (Bakersfield, California), born in Stockton, California, who passed away on May 3rd, 2019 at the age of 70, leaving behind family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 7th 2019 from 11:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. at the Chapel of Flowers in Cherokee Memorial Park (off Highway 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi CA).

Marla Johnson

08/05/1957 - 05/02/2019

Marla Delaine Johnson, 61, a lifelong Stockton resident passed away on May, 2, 2019. Marla fought a courageous battle against diabetes, kidney and heart disease. Marla is predeceased by her loving parents, Verne and Eileen Johnson. Marla and her beloved dog Sandy are now reunited. Marla is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, David and Laura Johnson. Marla enjoyed attending Stockton's many festivals and made it to The 2019 Asparagus Festival. Marla especially loved decorating for the holidays, buying gifts for people, and watching movies. Marla always remembered loved ones birthdays and anniversaries. The Johnson Family sincerely thanks all those who provided care, friendship and encouragement to Marla.

Marla has been laid to rest at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi.

Pamela Corsi

March 12, 1949 - April 30, 2019

Pam passed away on April 30, 2019 at the age of 70 following a long term illness. She was survived by children Tawnya Alibani (Clyde), Troy Lucio, (Fiamma), Dariel Lucio, (Idamae), Sophia Corsi, (Allesandro), Veronica Corsi, (Enrico), Grandchildren Lino Alibani, Shasa Lucio, Naike Giorgini, Malaika Lucio, Michele Mancuso and other family. Michelle Rinauro, Linda Johnson, Doriano Alibani, Elizabetta Bresciani, Matteo Giorgini, Joey Giuntoli, Tammy Snider, numerous nieces and nephew and friends. She was proceeded in death by parents James Marsh, Betty Bohannon, husband Gianfranco Corsi, Brother David Marsh, son-in law, Marco Mancuso.
Pamela was a lifelong blood donor. Donations in her honor may be made to a blood bank of choice.

Cherokee Memorial Park and Funeral Home of Lodi are entrusted with her care and service. Graveside service will be held May 8, 2019, 1:00 p.m. Visitation Monday, May 6, 12:00 - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 7, 9:00 am - 8:00 pm.

LaVonne Stender

04/22/1932 - 04/28/2019

Lavonne “Bonnie” Motell Stender passed away from cancer at the age of 87 years old on April 28, 2019.    Bonnie was known for her megawatt smile, easy humor and spunky attitude.    She lived in Morada (Stockton) for the past 57 years.  She was born in Davenport, Iowa  in 1932 and was the youngest of 4 girls.   She married John J. Henricks in 1950, however, he died in 1963.   Lavonne and John had two girls, Cheryl Kay and Barbara Jo   She later married Leon Ernest Stender, inherited his 3 children Sandra, Kurt and Scott and had another child, Alan. She worked as an office manager for the owner of 13 McDonald’s restaurants and later for doctor & Doctor Realtors for many years. She volunteered for many organizations including San Joaquin Sheriff’s STARS program, stroke and turn judge for AAU and USA swimming, and a local hospice organization. Most of all, Bonnie loved her family and her garden.    

Bonnie was preceded in death by her 1st husband Johnny, 2nd husband Leon and 3 of her children: Sandra, Kurt and Scott.   She is survived by 3 children Cheryl LeValley, Barbara Hunter and Alan (Erin) Stender as well as 11 grandchildren:   Kim (Brock) Denuit, Jeremy Hunter, Courtney (Stuart) Bivens, Nick Stender, Kristie (Mark) Ford, Brent (Jody) Kaiser, Lance Kaiser, Ian (Claudia) Goodhew, Eric Goodhew, Savannah (Garrett) Martin and Shelby Stender.   She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren including Lindsey and Brooke Denuit who live locally.   

SERVICE
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 24th, 2019 at 9:00a.m. at the Chapel of Flowers in Cherokee Memorial Park, located off of Highway 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi CA, 95240 and a celebration of life will take place at her longtime home in Morada following the service.

Alyce Nishima

Alyce Nishima was born in Acampo, CA on March 9, 1931.  She passed away at home in Lodi, CA on April 27, 2019.  She attended Houston School, spent 4 years during WWII at an internment camp in Rohwer, Arkansas.  Alyce graduated from Lodi Union High School, Class of ’49.  She worked for Herbert Buck Ranches, then as a bookkeeper and tax preparer. Alyce was a member of the Lodi Buddhist Church, Lodi Buddhist Women’s Association, and the Lodi Japanese American Citizens league.  She enjoyed sewing, cooking and growing vegetables to share with friends. She considered herself so lucky to have kind and generous friends and enjoyed the weekly luncheons.

She is preceded in death by parents Jiro and Iso Nishima, sisters Betty Egi (Masato), Fusaye Nishima, Dorothy K. Morita (Ken) and brother Tom Nishima.

 Alyce is survived by sister Rosalie Y. Kido (George) of Walnut Creek, 4 nephews: Dennis Egi (Miko), Ken Egi (Hannah), Marshall Kido (Leah), and Robert Kido (Teri), also survived by 7 grandnephews, 1 grandniece and 1 great grandnephew (Jet).

Services will be held privately.

Donald Berg

March 22, 1930 - April 27, 2019

Donald R. Berg passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on April 27, 2019. Donald was born March 22, 1930 in McLaughlin, South Dakota to Carl and Catherine Berg. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joyce; children: Kathleen Reams (Robert), Ronald Berg Sr. (Darla), and James Berg (Sherri); and also his 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Ruth Hill, Harold Berg, Alvin Berg, Herbert Berg, Wilbur Berg, Dorothy Berg, Clarence Berg, and Albert Berg. He was also preceded by his grandson Jeffery Berg, and great- granddaughter Daisy Stanfield.

From 1966 to 1983 Donald owned and operated Berg Roofing and supply Inc. After retirement, Donald enjoyed restoring Model A Fords. He also enjoyed going to car shows with his best buddy and brother-in-law Bob Hamer. Donald served in the US Army in 1951 during the Korean War, and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received while serving.

The family would like to thanks St. Josephs Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and Comfort Care Units for the wonderful care Donald received.

A visitation will take place on Thursday 2, 2019 from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Vineyard Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, 14165 N. Beckman Rd, Lodi, CA 95240.

SERVICE

A graveside service will take place at 11:00 am on Friday May 3, 2019 at Cherokee Memorial Park, located off of Highway 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi CA, 95240.
