Donald Pace, Jr.

May 8, 1941- July 27, 2019

Donald was taken from us suddenly on July 27, 2019. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1941 to Dr. Donald M. Pace, Sr and Norma Holland Pace. The family then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he grew up with his two siblings, James and Norma. Donal met his wife Karen in Lincoln and they married in January of 1963. Donald introduced Nebraska football to Karen and she shared his love for it which never faded. In 1971, Donald and Karen with their daughter, Kelly, followed his parents and siblings to Stockton, CA where his father was a professor at UOP and their lives continued here. Donald worked almost 20 years in an employment agency, which closed its doors and left him without a job. This eventually led to his working for the State of California Employment Development Department as a Job Service Rep where remained until he retired in 2007. During his time with the EDD he made many friends and many have remained friends to this day.

Donald graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1966 with a B.S. in Education and in 1968 with a M.S.T. Master of Secondary Teaching Degree. He had many interests including fishing, geology and music. He loved animals and became devoted to cats. But the two interests in his life that stood out the most were his love of the soil (gardening) and weather. He loved growing things and when he moved to California he had the opportunity to help his dad out and do just that. In 1986 the family was introduced to a Bay Area Nebraska Alumni Assn. picnic and that found they had corn as part of their menu. He told them that he would like to grow the corn for the picnic the next year and he did and continued every year. This is the first year that he missed the picnic.

Donald is predeceased by his father, Dr. Donald M. Pace, Sr., his mother Norma Holland Pace, and his brother James R. Pace. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Karen, his daughter Keyll, his sister Norma Wunderlich, his brother-in-law William Wnderlich, his sisters-in-law Valerie Gearhart (James), Verlene Hobbs (Eugene), and Karlene Friesen (Clarence) and many nieces and nephews.

Shannon Koepplin

May 1, 1970 - July 26, 2019

Shannon Carl Koepplin passed away at the age of 49 on July 26, 2019. He lost his battle with an aggressive form of leukemia (AML) he had been struggling with the last 6 months. He passed away peacefully and UC Davis Med Center with his loving wife Marni and family by his side.

Shannon was born to Gary and Patricia Koepplin in Lodi, California on May 1, 1970. He grew up in Lodi attending grade schools and high school locally where he participated in all the various sports activities. Growing up he and his family spent a lot of time fishing, snow skiing, motocross riding and camping. After he graduated Lodi High school in 1988, he gave junior college a try before heading to work in the family business of auto body repair at American Auto Body where he learned how to do what he did best. After a few years of honing his skills Shannon branched out and worked from his home-based business doing auto, boat and RV repair. He was extremely talented with custom paint and repair of hot rods and other specialized custom cars and was well known for his "need for perfection". Shannon loved to help his friends and was a very giving person. He would drop everything at a "moment's notice" to help a friend in need. Thus, he had a great support system these past few grueling months from those closest to Shannon which has been greatly appreciated by his wife and family.

Shannon really enjoyed working, and took a lot of pride in what he did, however whenever possible he loved to get away from it all. Some of his favorite places were Baja for fishing or heading up to the mountains to 4-wheel and spend time with his wife and friends camping. Most of all Shannon loved to spend time with his dogs Lucy and Lola. They were a huge part of his life and his daily routine. Whether he was working in his shop or running errands around town, those dogs loved to be with him.
Shannon is survived by his wife of 15 years, Marni Koepplin; father, Gary Koepplin (Katie); uncle, Max Koepplin; uncle, Dan Baker (Carol); father-in-law, Tim Fitzer; brother-in-law, Chris Fitzer (Jamie); and many cousins and extended family. Shannon had a special relationship his entire life with his second cousin Phil Katzakian (Chris) and their two children, Colin and Lauren. Shannon is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Koepplin; sister, Laura Koepplin; and mother-in-law, Sara Fitzer.

Mary Nell Downey Stone

July 20, 1932 – July 23, 2019

Mary Nell Stone, 87, of Riverbank, CA, went home to be with the Lord on July 23, 2019. She was born July 20, 1932, in Wilson, Oklahoma to the late William Earl and Naomi Laura Downey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother James, one grandchild, Angela Faile, and her husband of 55 years, Holt Norman “Norm” Stone. She is survived by three daughters, Lindsay Patrice Towell of Riverbank, Lorri Dean Faile (Jerry) of Riverbank, Raenell Horn (Wendell) of Citrus Heights, and a son, Norman Earl (Susan) of Searcy Arkansas. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren – Jerry Faile (Arlene) of Tracy, Dennis Mashburn of Sacramento, Trisha Watts (Gary) of Antelope, Angela Worrell (Jim) of Deptford Township, NJ, Jeremy Horn (Charity) of Sacramento, Wendell Lee Horn of Deptford Township, NJ, John Stone (Tia) of Searcy, AR, and Kathryn Hansen (Nate) of Firestone, CO – 21 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren.

Mary was a devoted mother who cared deeply for her children. As a homemaker, she was involved in nearly every aspect of their day-to-day lives as Cub Scout den mother, Campfire Girl leader, PTA President, Little League team mom, and general “cheerleader” for all the children did. She was also a devoted wife who worked daily side-by-side with her husband for a span of nearly 40 years as they worked together in the grocery business, and as apartment managers for various property management companies in Stockton.

When she was able, she loved gardening and working in the yard. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed weekly trips to the library, “Friends of the Library” book sales, and perusing the shelves of local used book stores. After her husband’s passing, she was an active member of the Daughters of Boaz organization, and as her health permitted, attended monthly luncheons with her friends. While she had been raised to believe, she came to fuller understanding of faith late in life as she learned “more accurately” the Lord’s will for her. She obeyed the gospel and was buried with Christ in baptism on May 13, 2015. She was an active member of the Northside/Cornerstone Baptist Church. Mary will be missed by many, but, most of all, by her children and extended family who loved her deeply. They all await that great and glorious day “when the roll is call up yonder.”
