OBITUARY

Alice Dortha (Smith) Cooper passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026 at the age of 92, in Stockton, California.

Alice was born on August 6, 1933 in Merced, California to the late William Smith and Elizabeth Smith. She was one of 14 children.

She met and married the love of her life, Nathaniel Cooper in 1950. To this union was one child who they named Nadline Denise Cooper.

Alice was proceeded in death by her husband Nathaniel, daughter Nadline, her Mother Elizabeth, her father William, siblings Roberta, Lonnie, Juanita, Willie, Ernest, Beatrice, Esther, Johnny, Helen and Alfred.

She leaves behind, her 3 beloved sisters, Marian Jenkins of Sacramento, Maxine Paymon and Doris Smith of Stockton, California, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters in law Sandra Smith and Carolyn Smith, brother in law Thomas Sr and her close friend Bernice and neighbors Joe and Melody.

Alice will be remembered and honored for her love for her family, her kindness, her generosity, her wittiness, her seriousness and the private life that she lived. Her last spoken words were that she lived a good life and that she wanted to go home to be with the Lord. She couldn’t wait to see her husband and daughter again.

SERVICE
Under the direction of Alice, family and friends are invited to a graveside service that will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, July 17th, 2026 at Cherokee Memorial Park, located off Highway 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi CA, 95240 as her final resting place.

Sandra Faye Appling

Sandra Faye Appling passed away peacefully in her home from her short battle with cancer on Friday June 26, 2026, surrounded by her family.

She was born on January 28, 1950, in Bridgeport Alabama to Robert and Dorothy Berryhill. She was the second oldest of nine children.

She married Robert Joe Appling in 1967 and they started their family. They had a total of 5 children, two daughters and 3 sons. They moved around a lot following the harvest as that was their way of life.

They settled down in Lodi in 1982 and called it home. They wanted their children to have stability. They both started working for Delta Packing. Sandra also worked for Haynes Board and Care in Lockeford. She loved working with the residents there. They brought her joy. She would always take her daughter to the Christmas party the had and she would tell her, “This is the best time for them, look at their smiles.”

She loved her family more than anything, they were her most treasured possession. She was the happiest when her family and friends gathered around and the music and laughter could be heard for miles. She enjoyed cooking big meals for everyone, she always welcomed anyone in her home for a meal. She enjoyed canning, couponing and bunco. She enjoyed going to the casino as much as she could. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights of her life. She would light up when they entered the room. The babies dancing, laughing, smiling and just being there were the best part of her days.

She was very proud of her children and that they all graduated high school. Her two eldest sons Robert Jr. and Ernest joined the Army. That made her and our dad very proud. Her youngest son Terry was the first to give her a grandchild, a baby girl. She was born on our parents’ anniversary. Her daughter Melissa was her joy. They talked for hours and in the latter years were more than mother/daughter they were best friends. They would enjoy shopping, going to the casino, and playing bunco with friends.

She is proceeded in death by her parents Robert and Dorothy Berryhill, her sisters Cathie Adams and Mary Raymond, her brothers, Bill Berryhill and Wayne Berryhill. Her husband Robert Joe Appling. Her children Robert Joe Appling, Jr. and Charlene Evette Appling.

She is Survived by her children:
Melissa Ann Davis (Mike), Ernest Wayne Appling (Sarah), Terry Lynn Appling (Becky).

We consider Kristi Guzman (Anthony), Amber Montgemery, Mike Kackley (Mary), Angel Lonsinger, her daughters and son as well.

Her sisters Deborah Masters (Thomas), Diane Williams and brother Danny Berryhill. Bother-in-law Donald Appling (Christine).

She has several nieces and nephews, most notable Bill Raymond who is more like a son. She has several great nieces and nephews.

She has 11 grandchildren:
Karissa Appling (Virgil), Kayla Appling, Amanda Appling, Tera Appling, Terry Appling, Breanna Gonzalez, (Jayson), Alyssa Appling, Baylie Ward (Allan), Aiden Franklin, Devin Guzman, Penelope Guzman.

6 great grandchildren:
Ivy Graham, Robert Graham, Noah Ward, Alivia Ward, Mabel Gonzalez, Marcello Martinez.

A special thank you to Becky Appling for all your hard work in taking care of mom during this last year especially. We love you.

Patricia Anne Chadwell

March 14, 1943 - June 26, 2026

Patricia Anne Chadwell, 83, of Lodi passed away peacefully on June 26th 2026.

Pat was born on March 14, 1943, in Los Angeles County, CA, where her father worked as a shipyard welder during WWII. She was the youngest of six siblings. She grew up in San Bernardino, CA, before moving to Lodi with her husband Roy and their young family in 1965. Pat was a loving wife and mother who worked 38 years as a receptionist and assistant for Dr. Kim, a local dermatologist.

After her retirement, Pat was a vigilant caregiver and health advocate for her husband. She enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and dining and shopping with her friends. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Chadwell, her parents John and Ira Love, and four siblings.

She is survived by her two children, Sherry Dickhoff (Michael Dickhoff) of Lodi and Roy A. Chadwell (Sharon Chadwell) of Galt, her brother James Love of Mesa, AZ, plus seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. 

Pat helped to cultivate faith, tenacity and an adventurous spirit in her family line as well as a love for cooking and gardening. She leaves behind warm memories of camping, nature walks, and fishing trips, snickerdoodles, sun tea, and the many delicacies she could create with home-grown produce!

There are no services scheduled at this time. Inurnment is private and Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home will be serving the family.

Mary Jane Tisher

November 2, 1941 - June 23, 2026

Mary Jane Tisher, a long-time resident of Stockton, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on November 2, 1941, Mary Jane lived a life full of dedication to her career, adventure, and deep devotion to her family. 

For many years, Mary Jane was a familiar and welcoming face in the local community through her work as a banker at the Bank of Stockton. Her professionalism and warmth touched many who knew her throughout her career.

Beyond her work, Mary Jane had an adventurous spirit and a love for life's simple pleasures. She was always ready to go places, whether it was catching a bus trip to explore new cities, traveling out of state to visit cherished family, or finding excitement at the slot machines in the casino.

Mary Jane is survived by her two sons, a brother, and a sister, who will all carry her memory forward.

She is now reunited with her beloved parents, James Wehe and Mary Costello, as well as her cherished husband, Don Tisher, and her dear daughter, Valerie Venable, who both preceded her in death. In a beautiful tribute to their eternal bond, Janie and Don will be laid to rest next to each other.

Mary Jane’s warmth, energy, and love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Luis was more than just a son, brother, uncle, and father, he was the heart and hero of our family, who was taken far too quickly from this lifetime. He was the kind of person who could light up any room the moment he walked in. His infectious laughter, warm smile, dancing, singing, and endless sense of humor had a way of making everyone around him feel welcome, loved, and at home.

Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Luis knew how hardworking, selfless, and caring he was. He dedicated his life to those he loved and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether it was offering words of encouragement, sharing a joke to make someone smile, or simply being there when it mattered most, Luis touched countless lives through his kindness and generosity.

Celebrating the Life of Frances Adele Johnson

Frances Adele Johnson passed away on June 22, 2026, at Riverbend Nursing and Rehab. She was 97 years old. Adele was born on April 15, 1929, in Jacksonville, FL to John Frederick Gries and Serena Gries. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and went on to earn an associate degree. She built a successful career as a life insurance underwriter at Pacific Standard Life Insurance Company, where she was the only woman authorized to write policies over $1,000,000 on her own signature – a remarkable achievement for a woman of her generation.

On September 11, 2004, Adele married William “Bill” Johnson at Davis United Methodist Church. Over two decades, Bill and Adele shared a love of the water, spending countless weekends exploring on their yacht and hosting fellow members of their yacht club, where Bill served as president. Every Christmas, they made their famous fudge together, selling it to loyal customers at the local craft fair. When Bills health declined, Adele cared for him with the same determination that marked her whole life. He passed in March 2024, and Adele – though she slowed down after losing him – remained her sharp, funny self until the end.

Adele was known for doing everything with style. She dressed to the nines, always. She was known for her cooking skills and loved hosting elegant dinners with her fine china, and she had a gift for making every guest feel special. Alongside her daughter Patti, she ran a ceramics business for years, creating and teaching pottery she loved to give away as gifts. She was tough, she was bossy, and she was hilarious – the kind of woman her family loved to laugh with and about, right up until sepsis took its toll.

Adele was on the Endowment Board for Lodi First UMC for years, something she was very proud to be a part of. As a member of Davis UMC, she provided beautiful arrangements every Sunday for the alter.

Adele is survived by her children, Patti Miller (David Miller), Robert Stivers, and James Stivers, along with step-daughter Catherine Evans; grandchildren Tasha Hays, George Hays (Michelle), Tony Hays (Liz Carden), Jeremy Higgins (Kristen), and Britney Galvin (Isaiah); and a large circle of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who adored her. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Johnson, and her daughter, Zoelynda Hays.

A Celebration of Life service for Adele will be held at Lodi First United Methodist Church in Lodi, CA on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 am. All friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Lodi First United Methodist Church.

OBITUARY

Charlotte Ruby Konrad passed away peacefully after a long illness on June 20th, 2026 in Stockton, California. Charlotte was born July 30th, 1949 in Lodi, California to Edgar H. Konrad and Florence Anna (Vaux) Konrad. The family moved to Carmel, California in the early 50’s and then to Stockton in 1956. She attended all of her school years in Stockton and graduated from A.A. Stagg Senior HS in 1967. She attended Joaquin Delta Junior College and then transferred to UCLA where she graduated with a BA in Art in 1972.

Charlotte spent her working years at Konrad’s Ice Cream and later Sharpe Army Depot. Pursuing her dream in motion picture production, she attended and then graduated with a Masters of Fine Arts in the School of Cinema and Television at the University of Southern California in 1985. Charlotte had some success in the film industry. She was the primary film editor of the cult classic Space Mutiny. She also contributed in editing of other projects such as the documentary Michelangelo: A Self Portrait and feature films such as the Bounty Hunter, Earnest Rides Again and Slam Dunk Earnest.

In later life, she was involved with many science fiction events and memorabilia. She was an avid supporter of the ASPCA and the Equestrian Olympic Team. She adored her dogs Emma and Silkie.

Charlotte is survived by her younger brother Edgar G. Konrad, and her niece Kim Konrad and nephew Chris Konrad. Her other brother Donald E. Konrad preceded her in November 2022.

With profound sadness and broken souls we announce the passing of Nova Amera Boccia on May 27, 2026. Born April 10, 2025, Nova filled every day of her life with joy, wonder, and unconditional love.  

Nova is survived by her loving mother Amanda Boccia, devoted brother Steven Gonzales, (SJ) grandparents Kim and Pete Boccia and Vera Quesada and Bernie Quesada. Nova is honored among many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her beloved father Zac Sebastian Boccia, who tragically passed before Nova was born. Nova Amera Boccia is now in the arms of her Daddy. 

Nova's beautiful smile, embracing demeanor and sweet spirit brought light wherever she went. She was a treasured daughter, sister, granddaughter, and beloved member of a family that adored her beyond measure. In her short life, she taught those around her the power of love, resilience, and the importance of presence in every precious moment.

We are forever grateful for every second we spent with Nova and the light she brought to our lives. Her memory will live on in every story, every smile and every act of love carried out by her family.

Nova will forever be our sunshine, our precious angel, and our greatest blessing. She will be deeply missed and always remembered for her perfect love.

Mary Louise Mitchell, born Mary Louise Frazer, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on June 18, 2026, at the age of 76.

Mary was born on January 6, 1950, in San Diego, California, to William Frazer Sr. and Katie Mae Robinson, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Robert Frazer, Juanita Henke, and William Frazer Jr.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Mitchell; her children, Tammy Derichsweiler (Erik), Kati Bradshaw (Keith), Eugene "Robert" Courtemanche (Jennifer), and Michael James Mitchell (Michelle); her brother, Joseph Frazer; her beloved niece, Stephani Keith, whom Mary and Michael lovingly raised during the early years of her life; ten grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Mary worked in a variety of occupations, but she was best known for her years at Keystone Lanes in Norwalk, CA where she served as League Coordinator before later managing the coffee shop until her retirement. She made lasting friendships there and will be remembered by many whose lives she touched.

Mary found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time outdoors, tending her garden, fishing, camping, and especially cooking. Nothing made her happier than preparing meals for family and friends. Her kitchen was often the heart of every gathering, and those fortunate enough to enjoy her cooking knew every meal was made with love.

One of Mary's greatest gifts was caring for others. Whether family, friends, or someone she had just met, she had a compassionate heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a natural caregiver who lovingly cared for several family members during times of illness. She never met a stranger, and her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

In 2006, Mary rededicated her life to God.  Her faith became the foundation of her life, bringing her peace, strength and hope.  In 2012, she and her husband, Michael, moved to Stockton, where she continued to grow in her faith and deepen her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Those closest to her witnessed the transformation in her heart and the unwavering trust she placed in God.

In the final days of her life, Mary faced her journey with remarkable courage and peace. Knowing her time on earth was drawing to a close, she shared with her family that she was ready. Her calm spirit and unwavering faith brought comfort to those around her and reflected the deep trust she had placed in her Savior.

Mary's legacy is one of unconditional love, compassion, generosity, hospitality, and unwavering faith. She will be remembered for the meals she lovingly prepared, the comfort she offered to those in need, the warmth she extended to everyone she met, and the deep love she had for her family.

In her final days, Mary simply said, "I'm ready. I've been waiting for the Lord." Those words now serve as a lasting reminder of the faith, courage, and peace with which she entered eternal life. Though her family will miss her beyond measure, they rejoice in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior.

Her family would like to thank everyone for the love, prayers, kindness, and support shown during this difficult time. Mary's memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

OBITUARY

Debbie Irwin went to rest with our Lord Jesus Christ on June 17, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born on September 7, 1955.

Debbie attended school in Lodi and graduated from Lodi High School in 1973. She met the love of her life, Mike, in 1972. They dated throughout high school and were married in 1974. Together, they had two sons, David (Jenn) and Daniel, and were blessed with a grandson, Luke.

Debbie was a Senior Escrow Officer and Branch Manager in Lodi's escrow industry for 42 years.

Debbie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as swimming, camping, Jeeping, boating, riding motorcycles, tending her garden and chickens, and taking vacations. She was an avid animal lover. 

Debbie’s strong faith in the Lord gave her strength everyday to continue to fight her battle against cancer. 

Debbie is survived by Mike, her loving husband of 53 years; her sons, David (Jenn) and Daniel; her grandson, Luke; her mother, Marion Favia; her sister, Debbie Turner (Rod); her nieces, Molly Abel (Nick) and Mindy Williams (Tyler); and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Kirra, Chris, Scarlett, and Charlie.

She was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Favia; her brother, Gary Favia; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Mary Irwin.

James Russell Burgess

James Russell Burgess
April 16, 1950 – June 16, 2026

James Russell Burgess passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, following a brief illness.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Nancy A. Burgess; his sisters, Teresa Burgess, Debra Burgess, and Susan (Burgess) Gallardo; his nephews, Geoffrey Burgess, Benjamin Burgess, and Cameron Clegg; his nieces, Sarah (Burgess) Mateer and Genevieve Burgess; and eight cherished grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Burgess and Frances (Murdock) Burgess, and by his brothers, Barry (Burgess) Hopcroft, Steven Burgess, and Brian Burgess.

Jim had a lifelong love of music of many genres, especially rock and roll. He also loved to travel with his wife, Nancy. Together they explored many far-flung destinations across Asia, Europe, Turkey and Egypt, as well as countless places throughout the United States. Jim was an excellent photographer and captured many of these destinations in beautiful slide collections which he often shared with family and friends. Through every adventure and every day in between, Jim was a loving, devoted, and steadfast partner to Nancy.

An avid gardener, Jim took great pride in creating a beautiful yard and thriving vegetable garden with Nancy at their longtime home in Lodi. In recent years, he enjoyed staying active at the gym, where he formed many valued friendships. Throughout his life, he could often be found tinkering, repairing, and fixing things, including cars—well at least until they became too damn complicated.

Jim dedicated more than 25 years of service to East Bay Municipal Utility District, where he worked as a Supervising Senior Hydrographer. He was respected by his colleagues for his knowledge, professionalism, and strong work ethic, and he developed several lifelong friendships during his career.

Jim will be remembered for his love of music, his passion for travel, his devotion to his home and garden, his ability to fix almost anything, and, above all, the love, kindness, and quiet strength he shared with family and friends. He will be especially missed by Nancy, with whom he shared a life filled with love, companionship, and adventure. Jim will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

In accordance with his wishes, Jim will be interred at Cherokee Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to a medical charity of your choice.
